The Kodiak Superior Court is accepting applications for a Chambers Judicial Assistant 1 (range 12)to provide administrative support
for Superior Court Judge Colleen Baxter.


* Employees transferring from another State of Alaska agency or applicants with prior legal work experience or education in the legal field may receive consideration for advance step placement. *

Duties Include:
  • Responsible for the smooth flow of paperwork and files between the judges chambers and the Clerks Office;
  • Type and edit correspondence orders and documents authorized by the judge;
  • Work files with pending motions and determine readiness and urgency for handling by the judge;
  • Perform In-Court clerking duties as needed; prepare log notes; prepare criminal judgments bail orders and other in-court forms as necessary;
  • Docket and distribute signed orders and notices;
  • Maintain files and updates in CourtView;
  • Schedule hearings manage the judges schedule in CourtView and Outlook;
  • Interact with public in courtroom; receive and screen telephone calls and visitors to chambers;
  • Prepare and submit biweekly pay affidavits and judicial leave reports;
  • Make travel arrangements; prepare and submit expense claims;
  • Assist with various special projects as needed.

The Work Hours
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work37.5 hours per week.The work hours for this position are
Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.


PLEASE NOTE:This position is assigned to the courts partially-exempt service; incumbents serve at-will to the hiring authority. Upon the retirement or resignation of the Superior Court Judge this position will end unless the incumbent is interviewed and selected by a new judge.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate.

AND

Two years of progressively responsible fully qualified work experience as an administrative assistant.


Substitution:

Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary paralegal or office skills will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

A bachelors degree from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

Twelve months of work experience performing general clerical work that demonstrates work skills equal to those of a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.

NOTE: Work experience as a legal administrative assistant is preferred. Positions in this job classification are in the partially-exempt service and serve at-will to the appointing authority.

EDUCATION

If post-secondary education is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications you must fill in the Education and Training section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree please indicate the number of credit hours earned in the Degree Obtained field. Copies of academic transcripts will be required.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

Applicants will be required to meet the Minimum Qualifications as outlined above. Unfortunately we cannot always interview all applicants.
