Job Summary

As our Communication & Events Officer your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Safety Health and Environment

  • Support a safe and healthy work environment where workers external service providers and contractors can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment
  • Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance
  • Support the compliance with MHSA in the workspace
  • Participate in VFL initiatives and submit the required number per month.

 

Performance and Delivery

Internal Communication:

  • Ensure that internal and external communications are conducted according to the business requirements and total Kumba branding standards to ensure a professional corporate image.
  • Implement site communication plans to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Execute regular audits to determine the effectiveness of communication channels.
  • Ensure online or digital communications are updated on time i.e. website.
  • Manage all internal communication channels according to the needs of employees:

o Communication plans aligned to business standards

o Timelines for feedback are met

o Effective communication channels

o Customer satisfaction index

o Processes optimised

o Best practice principles upheld and applied

o Surveys Newsletters Electronic communication Screens and Notice boards/posters.

 

Channel Management:

  • Manage all communication channels for effective communication Kumba-wide.
  • Identify new opportunities for effective channel management.
  • Distribute communication content on all levels:

o Screens Electronic Apps distribution reports and SMS system.

 

Reporting:

  • Ensure that profiling and branding projects are monitored and continuous reporting is done on progress and next steps within the project plan:

o Information is continuously updated and communicated.

Communication Campaigns and Projects:

  • Implement communication campaigns to support core business deliverables.
  • Develop and identify relevant campaigns to promote awareness internally and externally:

o Screens Electronic Apps distribution reports and SMS system.

Profiling and Branding:

  • Ensure that the branding and profiling of Kumba are aligned with Corporate Office directives and in accordance with Anglo American standards and requirements.
  • Maintain branding integrity through the efficient management of all events to enhance the profile of the company and operations.
  • Monitor the way visitors are received according to prescribed guidelines to ensure uniformity.
  • Manage internal and external signage to ensure compliance with the Kumba policies and procedures.

Budget and Cost Control Management:

  • Maintain adherence to the sections expenditure limits to ensure proper cost management on:

o Cost savings

o Financial variances

o Accuracy of financial information.

Compliance:

  • Support social components of all work needed to achieve and maintain public awareness of the organisations activities in a favourable manner.
  • Conduct risk mitigation to minimise threats (reputational damage) to the organisation.
  • Execute effective community management systems and assurance.
  • Deliver on the Anglo Social Way (version three).

This role is in the Corporate Affairs (COR) department on a band 7.8 level reporting to the Specialist Communication.


Qualifications :

  • Grade 12
  • Communications and Public Relations or equivalent on NQF5
  • SA Drivers Licence: Code B (Light Vehicle)

Technical Knowledge

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in the communication industry.
  • Familiar with systematic problem-solving and structured methodologies to analyse risks and possibilities for creating valuable communication solutions.
  • Understand effective communication processes in practice.
  • Knowledge of project management processes and active resource management to cultivate beneficial business relationships.
  • Understand communication and event management standards and recommended practices.
