Under general supervision of licensed physicians and Radiology Supervisor performs-basic and advanced (e.g computerized tomography/special (interventional) procedures radiologic and fluoroscopic examinations in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Sets up adjusts and operates x-ray CT C-arm and other equipment selecting proper technical factors to obtain accurate diagnostic radiographs or CAT scans; properly positions and immobilizes patients. Responds to patients needs as required. Maintains cleanliness of equipment and general working area stocking clinical supplies. Ensures proper operation of all equipment. Performs quality assurance/CQI functions. Provides instruction to medical students and residents. Provides care to patients of all age groups in the form of diagnostic testing.
-Job requires a minimum level of knowledge ordinarily acquired through completion of an Associates Degree or equivalent NYS accredited /JRCERT approved training program in radiological technology. Special training required to conduct/supervise certain areas such as mammography special procedures computerized tomography.
-Candidates/incumbents should possess two to three years of progressively more responsible experience as radiology lead technologist or junior supervisor as minimum criterion in order to gain seasoned familiarity with radiological testing.
-Must be knowledgeable about most major models of radiological diagnostic equipment.
-Good analytical skills necessary in order to solve problems of moderate complexity requiring specialized knowledge but where supervisors are available for consultation. Standard methods guidelines and procedures govern work performed although incumbent may develop day-to-day procedures.
-Prior work experience of more that five years is desired in order to gain seasoned familiarity with administration of radiological testing. Should be knowledgeable about most major models of radiological testing equipment.
-License by New York State Department of Health as Radiologic Technologist is mandatory.
-ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technology) certifications for certain specialty examinations (e.g. CT/special procedures) is preferred for this title.
