Reporting to the Construction Supervisor this position is responsible for carrying out construction repairs renovations and upgrades to TH infrastructure and heritage sites in all areas related to the carpentry trade. The incumbent will assist in all related functions necessary to ensure the safety security and functionality of capital construction projects and team adherence to national and Yukon building codes preventative maintenance risk assessments and the managing of inventories and supplies lists. The position will assist in the supervision of other carpenters and maintenance employees and participate in the development and advancement of TH apprentice carpenters. The incumbent is responsible for direct supervision of jeje-in on site when the Construction Supervisor is not available. This position will be expected to work in all weather temperatures and in confined spaces such as foundations and attics.

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time permanent part-time temporary full-time temporary part-time term or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:

• High School Diploma (GED equivalency) with a minimum of five years of experience in carpentry with finishing work including fine woodwork. An equivalent combination of education knowledge skills and experience may be considered.

• Experience supervising and monitoring employees on a worksite including mentoring apprentices.

• Knowledge of construction methods and various trades such as demolition framing basic HVAC/ electrical/plumbing underlayment drywall hanging taping and finishing painting tiling flooring installation finish carpentry window door and siding installation.

• Experience and knowledge of waste minimization and environmentally friendly practices.

• Knowledge of national and Yukon building and Municipal Heritage codes.

• Experience working in remote camp settings an asset.

• Experience interpreting blueprints drawings sketches and calculating supply requirements as well as executing the requested task.

• Knowledge of northern climates and building methods.

Conditions of Employment:

• Commitment to take / update OH&S training including First Aid WHMIS TDGs Fall Restraint Confined Workspaces hazard assessments and development of safe operating procedures.
