Nature and Scope of Job:
To provide appealing and nutritional meals to participants of the Sweetwater County School District #1 Food Service Program.
Job Functions:
Essential Functions:
Good understanding of institutional kitchen operation/management.
Knowledge and skills in large quantity food handling preparation and cooking.
Ensure high standards of service and food quality; serve students/staff appetizing food in adequate portions.
Ensure that foods are maintained at proper temperatures for storing and serving. Thaw food products accordingly.
Monitor all foods for quality of taste texture and appearance; test new recipes.
Plan and prepare food items following menus and recipes.
Basic knowledge and up to date training in inventory control ordering School Nutrition Program menu planning requirements and quality control methods.
Ensure that established health and safety procedures are followed.
Keep abreast of changing School Nutrition Program requirements.
Familiarity with public school breakfast and lunch programs desired.
Ability to read write and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos.
Basic computer skills preferred.
Knowledge and/or ability to learn Point of Sale system required.
Ability to accurately add subtract multiply and divide.
Ability to resolve routine problems.
Ability to communicate courteously efficiently and effectively at all times with a variety of individuals including students parents district personnel and representatives of outside organizations.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with peers subordinates supervisors parents and outside agencies.
Dependability punctuality and initiative are essential.
Good personal hygiene.
Prepares all foods for breakfast lunch or both as called for by the menu daily.
Operates all kitchen equipment on a daily basis.
Maintains the storage and care of food and supplies.
Cleans kitchen equipment serving area and cafeteria area daily.
Assumes responsibility for checking that all equipment and working area are in safe working condition.
Participates in proper storage of in-coming food and supplies.
Maintains daily food records and does warehouse ordering for daily menus.
Inform the Food Service Director of all needs and recommend improvements to the lunch program.
Ensures the use of required hair restraints for all food handlers.
Clean and inventory all equipment and supplies at the end of the school year.
Follow all district policies and procedures.
Other functions:
Adapts to specific or new working situations as needed.
Responsible for all assistant cooks.
Seeks appropriate additional tasks when assigned work is completed.
Performs any other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements (Education Experience or Formal Training):
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous institutional food service experience.

Physical Demands:
Lower body strength to stand and walk throughout the work day.
Upper body strength to lift and carry 50 pounds more than 20 feet throughout the work day.
Have visual acuity and stamina to work with kitchen equipment.
Environmental Demands:
Occasional exposure to freezing temperature of freezer or heat from ovens.
Occasional exposure to weather extremes.
Noise level is moderate to loud
