Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly skilled IT Data Engineer to design build and maintain secure data solutions within a NIST 800-53 compliant enclave in support of the FAA BNATCS contract. This role is responsible for developing and managing data integrations building visualizations and optimizing data warehouse storage to support analytics and mission-critical reporting. The Data Engineer will collaborate with cybersecurity compliance and business intelligence teams to ensure that all data systems meet federal security standards while enabling actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
Data Integration
- Design and implement ETL/ELT pipelines to integrate data from multiple sources into secure environments.
- Ensure data flows comply with NIST 800-53 security controls and organizational policies.
- Automate data ingestion and transformation processes for efficiency and scalability.
- Familiarity with Mulesoft and other data integration tools.
Data Warehouse & Storage
- Architect and maintain secure data warehouse solutions (on-premises and/or cloud).
- Optimize storage indexing and query performance for large-scale datasets.
- Implement encryption access controls and monitoring in line with NIST 800-53 requirements.
Data Visualization & Analytics
- Develop dashboards and reports using BI tools (Power BI Tableau Qlik etc.).
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into meaningful visualizations.
- Ensure reporting solutions meet compliance and security standards.
Security & Compliance
- Integrate NIST 800-53 security controls into all data engineering processes.
- Partner with cybersecurity teams to ensure secure configurations and continuous monitoring.
- Support audits assessments and accreditation processes (e.g. FISMA FedRAMP).
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with data scientists analysts and business units to deliver secure reliable data solutions.
- Provide technical guidance on data engineering best practices in regulated environments.
- Document processes configurations and compliance evidence for internal and external reviews.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems or related field (Masters preferred).
- 5 years of experience (3 w/ Masters Degree) in data engineering with focus on integrations warehousing and visualization.
- Strong knowledge of NIST 800-53 security controls and compliance frameworks (FISMA FedRAMP).
- Expertise in SQL Python and ETL/ELT tools (SSIS Informatica Talend dbt).
- Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure Synapse AWS Redshift Google BigQuery) and hybrid architectures.
- Familiarity with BI tools (Power BI Tableau Qlik) and data modeling techniques.
- Professional certifications such as CISSP CISM or cloud data engineering certifications are highly desirable.
- Must have the ability to obtain/maintain a Public Trust
- This is a remote capable role however candidates must reside within the NoVA (DMV) local area.

- Ability to translate regulatory requirements into technical solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
- Experience working in federal or regulated environments.

Target Salary Range
$80000 - $128000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position the individuals experience education knowledge skills and competencies as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position employees may be eligible for overtime shift differential and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
