Job Summary and Responsibilities

Interview register and schedule patients. Determine financial responsibilities and performs financial counseling as necessary. Collect co-payments and verifies insurance for patient encounters. Performs other clerical duties to support of the unit such as statistics report preparation and other functions. The employee will have access to third party credit card information and transactional systems (cash registers point of sale devices applications supporting credit card transactions and reports or other documents containing credit card information) and will access only a single card at a time.

Regulatory Compliance

Provides general information and forms to patients regarding registration which include Patient Bill of Rights PatientSafety and Joint Notice of Privacy Practices Obtain patient or patient representatives signature on required forms. Verifies patient identity and address by having the patient provides you their date-of-birth address and phone number.

Standard Documents that appropriate forms were provided. Obtains correct information when the patient requests a Medical Record release. Uses two-patient identification for each encounter.

Scheduling

Verifies patient identity and address by having the patient provide their date of birth address and phone number. Makes follow-up appointments as prescribed by the provider. Double books only if approved by the provider or management; and documents. Follows schedule guidelines. Accurately enters the chief complaint which must always be correctly and completely spelled out. Standard Patients connected to the correct medical record number 100% of the time. Referrals are obtained as required for appointments 100% of the time. Only uses approved abbreviations.

Registration

Register patients for appointments to the correct provider Verifies patient identity and address by having the patient provides you their date-of-birth address and phone insurance benefits.

Identifies self-pay patients who may be eligible for government aid and refers to appropriate resource for assistance as necessary.

Labels paperwork with patient-appropriate labels. Assures referrals are on file for appointment. Makes follow-up appointments as prescribed by the provider. Provides appropriate time slot for appointment. Provides forms to patients as required.

Elicits and codes information received about patient health insurance and financial status. Obtains consent or representative consent for treatment. Standard: Assigns the patient the correct medical record number and provider 100% of the time. Verifies insurance benefits 100% of the time.

Refers patients as required for financial counseling. Consent for treatment is obtained on 100% of the patients.

Job Requirements

Minimum:

  • One year experience registering patients in a medical office.
  • Manage medical records and schedule appointments in a more complex outpatient setting
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Able to work various shifts an hours

Preferred:

  • Medical Terminology
  • Bilingual
