A Member of Parliament is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Legislative Assistant position.
About the role:
As a Legislative Assistant you are primarily responsible for conducting research collecting data analyzing findings and preparing summaries and reports that are of interest to the Member of Parliament or for committee business.
This role is a key in advancing and facilitating the Members main objectives and priorities through research communication legislation and other activities.
Primary responsibilities:
- Provide strategic legislative and policy support to the MP including research analysis and briefings.
- Monitor parliamentary proceedings committee activities and legislative developments to inform the MPs work.
- Draft speeches statements questions and communications for use in the House committees and public engagements.
- Coordinate with stakeholders party researchers and parliamentary staff to advance legislative priorities.
- Prepare materials for caucus committee meetings and stakeholder engagements.
- Respond to constituent and interest group inquiries on legislative issues and maintain clear communication on policy matters.
Salary: Commensurate with experiences education and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package including health dental and the public service pension plan.
Start Date: As soon as possible.
Qualifications :
Education:
- Minimum requirement of a bachelor degree from a recognized institution in political science.
Experiences:
- Knowledge of the Canadian parliamentary system legislative process and federal politics.
- Exceptional research writing and editing skills.
- Significant experience working in an office setting with autonomy and professionalism.
- Political acumen and discretion in handling sensitive issues.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Ability to establish and manage multiple priorities meet strict deadlines and work independently in a high stress environment.
Asset:
- Previous experience on Parliament Hill or in a political or legislative environment.
