Job Summary

Support and/or develop the implementation of technical market segmentation and new technical initiatives / applications for China market that can be used in the Iron Ore Marketing team to meet customer requirements identify new customers and create value for Anglo American in the near to medium term. The incumbent will also supervise iron ore onshore activities i.e. blending and beneficiation focusing on equity products as well as third party source ores maintain good relationship with customers procurement & operational teams; network with universities and research institutes to understand the latest technology development.

Key Tasks:

Technical Marketing Strategy Product Knowledge and Commercial

  • Contribute technical expertise to Market and Product Development studies and creating a solid base for the growth of Iron Ore presence in China.
  • Understanding existing and future clients technical needs for Iron Ore and translating this information in the introduction of new products and/or product changes (blends)
  • Advise on client opportunities and possible product specification changes that is aligned with overall Iron Ore strategy
  • Report and analyse trends on the technical side of Steel Making to address customer issues
  • Providing technical pre-sales support to customers through customer and site visits
  • Initiate and execute collaborative activities with other technical specialists of other commodities
  • Identify investigate and support implementation (with sales) of synergistic (value-adding) technical / product-related initiatives between other commodities.
  • Define and implement different iron ore blending techniques and opportunities; understand and implement the value-added beneficiation and screening to support equity and 3rd party ores.
  • Feedback customers needs and/or requests to Anglo-American mines and Source& Origination.
  • Support technical marketing ISOP and mining operation to set up Anglo-American iron ore products portfolio and specifications.

Sales Strategy

  • Technical Marketing activities to support both current and future sales strategies.
  • Develop relationships with our customers technical personnel and leverage on these relationships to support sales and market development. 
  • Support the Manager Sales - Iron Ore (China) in defining and executing sales strategy to maximise the sustainable value of the regional Anglo-American Iron Ore commodity sales book within risk and governance policies through developing and maintaining (niche) product markets to maintain Anglo Americans global position in the iron and steel industry.
  • Support the development of medium term sales strategy for the assigned regions.
  • Identify customers needs to facilitate both equity and 3rd party ores trades.

Contract Execution

  • Work closely with the sales operations team to oversee the sales execution process and ensure excellent service delivery and quick resolution of customer queries.
  • Address and resolve any customer complaints/service shortfalls.
  • Monitoring and analyzing AAML iron ore performance in the plants and find further business opportunities.

Optimisation and Growth

  • Support the management of a portfolio of existing customer accounts and support the development of long-term relationships with key customers.
  • Support and/or develop new opportunities for sales.
  • Support to optimise value of the sales book throughout the customer negotiation process.
  • Identification and / or implementation of key optimization projects to maximise value for the Marketing BU
  • Identify and / or implement new commercial opportunities (e.g. logistics optimisation third party sourcing) through internal and external working relationships and interactions beyond immediate team.
  • Involve in VIU assessment and support iron ore Sourcing &Origination
  • Learn iron ore finance trading and apply the knowledge for iron ore valuation and pricing

Risk and Governance

  • Support with the execution of the commodity regional strategy within Marketings defined risk and governance framework.
  • KYC customers and clients

Qualifications :

What were looking for

  • Fluent written and spoken English is a pre-requisite business language is English
  • Degree educated with a qualification in a relevant subject area BSc or relevant technical degree
  • Experience in Iron Ore ideally in Technical Marketing function with commercial exposure in a trading environment is preferred
  • Strong ability to prioritise deliverables under pressure.
  • Extensive Travel
  • Iron ore and steel manufacturing processes
  • Sales and marketing policies and governances
  • Understanding of mechanisms of iron ore logistics and of Iron Ore pricing mechanisms
  • Product development dynamics
  • Understanding of the Iron ore market and key customers.
  • Knowledge of and interest in the mining or resources industry and commodity markets
  • Experience within a complex organisation across different countries and jurisdictions cultures interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.
