The Role

As a DevOps Engineer you are part of the Staff Engineering team alongside the Staff Backend Engineer and the Staff Frontend Engineer. You report directly to the Head of Engineering and work hand in hand with the Tribes to ensure Sortlists infrastructure is robust scalable secure and developer-friendly.

You will own the infrastructure and platform layer of our product ensuring the systems we build are reliable observable cost-efficient and easy for developers to work with. This is a hands-on high-impact technical leadership role where youll lead by doing teaching and enabling others.

Your Day-to-Day

Infrastructure Ownership

• Own and maintain Sortlists infrastructure across AWS and GCP.
• Define and implement a long-term infrastructure vision ensuring scalability cost control and reliability.
• Continuously assess and optimize costs across environments and services.
• Manage and evolve our Infrastructure-as-Code setup (Terraform Terragrunt FluxCD Istio).
• Oversee and improve CI/CD pipelines environment management (staging/sandbox/prod) and automation practices.
• Implement and maintain infrastructure security best practices including access management network security and compliance in our Terraform and Zero Trust setups.

Reliability & Developer Experience

• Improve monitoring alerting and incident response ensuring rapid recovery and transparency.
• Support engineers when systems crash or degrade pair on fixes diagnose root causes and prevent recurrence.
• Improve DevX: create better sandboxes streamline local environments and simplify deployments.
• Write clear guidelines and documentation to empower developers to work confidently with infrastructure.

Collaboration & Influence

• Partner closely with the Backend and Frontend Staff Engineers to maintain consistency across the stack.
• Actively contribute to the Engineering Council challenging and guiding project leads on infrastructure and reliability decisions.
• Support the Tribes as an enabler not a blocker offering help mentorship and feedback on architecture and operations.
• Lead post-mortems drive reliability initiatives and continuously improve our platform maturity.

What Were Looking For

• Solid experience as a DevOps Engineer Infrastructure Engineer or Platform Engineer in production environments.
• Deep knowledge of AWS Kubernetes Terraform and CI/CD automation.
• Hands-on experience with FluxCD Terragrunt and Istio (or similar tools).
• Strong grasp of networking observability and security in cloud environments.
• Proven ability to improve developer experience through tooling automation and documentation.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills calm under pressure.
• Collaborative mindset with great communication: you make complex topics accessible.
• Fluency in English and French (our working languages).
