About the Role
As aDigital Modeler you will be instrumental in the intricate process of the surface development seamlessly bridging creative vision with technical execution. Working closely with our designengineering and manufacturing teams you will ensure the highest level of surface quality and feasibility contributing directly to the aesthetic and functional excellence of our vehicles. Your expertise will be crucial in integrating complex engineering requirements while meticulously maintaining the integrity of the original design vision.
Reporting directly to 3D Digital Modeler Manger this role is based at our cutting-edge Design Studio in Broadmeadows operating on a hybrid schedule with four days in the office.
Concept and Class A Surface Generation: Create 3D concept and/or Class A surface data from 2D sketches scan data and verbal direction from designers utilising Alias/ICEM Surf.
Advanced Surface Development: Develop intricate surfaces up to and including Class A quality incorporating first flanges and fillets to support both physical clay and digital model development processes.
Feasibility Integration: Expertly integrate crucial feasibility requirements including engineering manufacturing package and architectural constraints directly into surface data.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interface seamlessly with program teams and downstream activities to enhance surface development from initial design intent through to final data release.
Problem Solving and Resolution: Develop creative solutions to complex engineering manufacturing and design challenges. Lead digital reviews to drive resolution of surface data issues.
Data Management and Progression: Manage surface changes within the Surface Data Management System (SDMS) and facilitate program surface progression through the K-Loops.
Quality Assurance: Diligently follow design critique sheet processes and perform zebra stripe analysis incorporating feedback to ensure superior surface quality.
3D Surface Modelling Expertise: Minimum 5 years of proven experience in developing 3D surface models specifically utilizing Alias and/or ICEM Surf.
Automotive Feasibility Knowledge: Demonstrated working knowledge and application of engineering and manufacturing feasibility criteria relative to the design of automotive exterior and interior systems.
Class A Surfacing Proficiency: Strong technical skills in Class A Surfacing Tools including Alias and ICEM Surf.
Visualization Tools Proficiency: Proficiency with Visualization Tools such as VRED.
Software Adaptability: Ability to learn new 3D software packages quickly.
CAD Software Familiarity: Basic knowledge of CATIA V5 and/or 3DX.
End-to-End Surface Development Process: Thorough working knowledge of the complete surface development process from design conception through production release for both exterior and interior components.
Data Management Tools: Experience with Data Management and Progression Tools (e.g. Teamcenter 3DX Reference Manager).
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors degree in industrial design or mechanical engineering.
Design and Feasibility Process Understanding: Strong understanding of the Design Development and Feasibility Process including how they drive the design process through the GPDS milestones.
Craftsmanship and System Compatibility: Understanding of Craftsmanship DPA Process and System Compatibility.
Design Evaluation and Recommendation: Proven ability to evaluate design alternatives and provide clear data-driven recommendations.
Interpersonal and Organisational Skills: Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to plan and organize work effectively.
GPDS Milestone Planning: Ability to develop and track a plan to deliver geometry through the Ford GPDS milestones.
Cross-functional Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach for daily interaction with Design Studio Engineering Manufacturing and other affected activities.
Microsoft Office Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft suite (PowerPoint and Excel).
