Duties and Responsibilities

(* Essential Functions)

  1. *Coordinate and oversee daily operations of content (subject area) and writing tutoring including peer-to-peer embedded in-person and online tutoring to support students in mastering course content.
  2. *Supervise tutor scheduling approve timesheets manage payroll processes and monitor budgeting needs in collaboration with the Office Assistant.
  3. *Monitor and manage Penjiapp tutoring scheduling system online tutoring platform etc.
  4. *Supervise and support peer content and writing tutors.
  5. *Promote tutoring services to the college.
  6. *Respond to student and faculty inquiries regarding tutoring services.
  7. *Maintain accurate tutor records and support tracking of center usage and service delivery.
  8. *Collect organize and summarize usage and operations data for internal tracking and reporting.
  9. *Communicate regularly with the Interim Learning Commons and Library Coordinator to share updates and seek input as needed.
  10. *Collaborate with other Learning Commons faculty and staff to support overall Learning Commons operations.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree in Education Humanities or STEM-related fields including English Hawaiian Language or Studies Computer Science Creative Media Business or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for providing academic support or demonstrating leadership or coordination skills in a higher-education or tutoring environment (may include peer tutoring lead-tutor responsibilities mentoring or training tutors supplemental instruction classroom assistance or comparable student-learning support); or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of academic support as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems associated with academic support.
  4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer apply word processing software.
  8. For supervisory work demonstrated ability to lead subordinates manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.
  9. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students faculty and staff.
  10. Proficiency using Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint or equivalent Google Suite applications (Docs Sheets and Slides).

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated experience coordinating or assisting with tutoring activities initiatives or communications between tutors students or staff in a higher-education or community-college setting.
  2. Demonstrated ability to mentor or train peer tutors or student employees in academic-support settings.
  3. Background in facilitating learning or providing academic support in one or more disciplines offered at the college.
  4. Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population.
  6. Graduate-level study in Education Humanities or STEM-related fields including English Hawaiian Language or Studies Computer Science or Creative Media Business or other related disciplines emphasizing communication organization or academic support.
