GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 190 staff GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health Social Services Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.

GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social emotional and spiritual wellbeing with culture at the heart of everything we do.

Position Purpose

The Program Support Officer Elders (Kitchen & Activities) plays a central role in creating a culturally safe welcoming and well-organised environment for Elders. The position provides:

Kitchen and food preparation support

Hospitality and meal service

Program setup pack-down and activity support

Basic administration and logistics assistance

Support during community outings cultural events and gatherings

The role ensures Elders feel connected respected and supported to participate in culturally grounded programs that promote independence wellbeing inclusion and cultural identity.

This is a non-clinical role and works collaboratively with the Chef Lifestyle Workers Social Inclusion Lead Care Partners and the broader Elders & Independent Living Services team.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Ability to work under direct regular supervision within clearly defined guidelines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide a warm culturally respectful first point of contact.
  • Demonstrated ability to support individuals to meet their immediate needs in group and community program settings.
  • Basic skills in technology (email scanning photocopying) consistent with entry-level community services expectations.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to team-based problem solving.
  • Understanding of cultural safety diversity and inclusive practice.
  • Knowledge of safe food handling hygiene and maintaining a clean work environment.

Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).

  • Certificate II or III in Hospitality Community Services or equivalent OR willingness to obtain within an agreed timeframe. ESSENTIAL
  • Food Handler Certificate (Food Safety Level 1 or equivalent) or willingness to complete prior to commencement. ESSENTIAL
  • A satisfactory Victorian Working with Childrens Check and a satisfactory National Police Check (Aged Care / Vulnerable Persons Sector) and NDIS Worker Screening Clearance ESSENTIAL
  • Ability to meet occupational vaccination requirements for workers supporting vulnerable people including providing evidence of immunisation history and recommended vaccinations and proof of COVID-19 vaccination to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
  • A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE
