Job Description
To serve as a civilian employee of the Indiana State Police whose primary responsibility is to be accountable for the performance of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Unit within the context of the Forensic Services Divisions (FSD) mission.
Job Duties
- Participate in the establishment of Unit priorities goals and objectives to accomplish the mission of the FSD.
- Monitor performance of the LIMS.
- Monitor the LIMS performance of FSD personnel.
- Plan direct and supervise the work associated with the Unit and the FSD.
- Fulfill the quality assurance responsibilities of the Unit as required by the FSDs Quality Assurance Program.
- Perform administrative and support functions as necessary to maintain analytical services.
- Maintain effective communications with the scientific and criminal justice communities Department personnel and the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT).
- Propose and implement Unit goals and objectives.
- Distribute operational assignments to FSD personnel.
- Participate in the formulation of budget requests.
- Maintain documentation and validate or supervise validation of LIMS procedures.
- Maintain the Units resource materials.
- Participate in creation and annual review of management system documents.
- Maintain integrity and security of the LIMS network system.
- Implement change requests made to the LIMS database and maintain documentation.
- Identify training needs develop and administer training programs.
- Prepare recommendations with justification and specifications for the purchase of equipment and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards Standard Operating Procedures Rules Regulations FSD policies and licensing agreements.
- Perform other duties as required.
Job Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree or higher with natural forensic and/or computer science courses.
- Three years of full time experience in an accredited forensic laboratory and/or information technology position.
- Knowledge of the general theory installation and practical operation of a variety of operating systems software programs computer hardware and networking equipment.
- Ability to perform complex LIMS and computer system procedures.
- Ability to comprehend demonstrate explain and apply theory and practical operation of a variety of operating systems software programs computer hardware and networking equipment.
- Ability to comprehend explain and apply management and leadership theories and techniques.
- Ability to effectively operate various computer systems and software.
- Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Ability to manage and adhere to established laboratory safety practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to testify as an expert witness in an objective unbiased and professional manner.
- Must be able to differentiate colors as evidenced by medical certification.
- Must possess a valid drivers license.
- Ability to travel by aircraft and other vehicles.
- Ability to attend training at alternate locations for extended periods of time.
