The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) has a post graduate opportunity for a Conservator to develop their skills knowledge and experience in decorative arts conservation through a fellowship program.
The Fellow will work with the Objects Conservation team undertaking preventive and remedial conservation activities that contribute to the delivery of exhibition and collection programs at the NGV and towards outreach programs across regional Victoria. The ideal candidate will have one to two years of experience in conservation treatments of objects with a focus in decorative arts.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Under supervision you will undertake a program of work to develop skills and expertise in the preservation and care of decorative arts. Other key responsibilities will include:
To be successful you will have recently completed a tertiary degree in the conservation of cultural materials specialising in the conservation of objects coupled with one to two years of demonstrated experience in the treatment of decorative arts. You will have demonstrated experience in the examination and documentation of decorative art works and knowledge of a range of organic and inorganic materials these are made from along with an understanding of preventive conservation strategies for the preservation of objects.
You can establish and maintain relationships with people at all levels forging useful partnerships with people across business areas functions and organisations building trust through consistent actions. You clearly explain information listen to feedback and use persuasion skills to liaise with a wide range of contacts. You can conduct research and prepare written communications using clear concise and grammatically collect language including content appropriate for the audience. You have the ability to work within the confines of program budgets accepting changed priorities without discomfort remaining calm and in control under pressure and take responsibility for own actions.
