About the opportunity

MUST BE ENROLLED IN A PHD OR DMA DEGREE AT THE SYDNEY CONSERVATORIUM OF MUSIC UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY.


The Sydney Conservatorium of Music is currently seeking commenced or soon-to commence PhD or DMA students in Music for a part-time (0.2 FTE) appointment as a Postgraduate Teaching Fellow at Associate Lectureship Level. Please note the bulk of teaching hours associated with this appointment will occur during semester teaching weeks.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • conduct and prepare tutorials
  • conduct examination and other assessment marking
  • respond to student enquiries
  • undertake administrative functions
  • participate in University events and outreach activities such as Open Days
  • assist generally with the development and delivery of undergraduate education

About you

  • assist generally with the development and delivery of undergraduate education
  • are currently enrolled or soon to commence PhD or DMA student at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the time of application
  • have potential to conduct original research and/or engage in scholarly activity
  • have ability to tutor undergraduate units in music skills composition analysis history and culture studies or other identified areas of need
  • have a passion for teaching
  • possess good time management organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail
  • have proven excellence in both written and verbal communication
  • are motivated and able to work independently
  • have developing knowledge and understanding of contemporary pedagogical practice and design

Please note: current students must have received an Outstanding or Satisfactory rating on the their most recent PEM to be considered.

Students who are in periods of extension in their degree will not be eligible for appointment into one of these roles.

If you are appointed to a Postgraduate Teaching Fellow role and submit your thesis for examination during your contract you will be eligible to continue in your role until the end of the year in which your thesis is submitted.

  • Two letters of reference (one of these letters must be from your Lead supervisor)

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
