Job Summary

The Durability Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the installation maintenance troubleshooting and calibration of various instrumentation and data acquisition systems used in durability testing. This will include Instrumentation for RLDAs and support testing of components subsystems and vehicles. This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of test data collected during physical testing which is used to validate product life and performance under various load and environmental conditions.

Top Skill/Responsibilities:

- Instrumentation Setup: Install wire and configure sensors (e.g. strain gauges accelerometers thermocouples pressure transducers displacement transducers and WFTs) on test articles (vehicles or components) according to engineering specifications and schematics.

- Strain Gauge Usage: Lay and wire strain gauges on components to output for data acquisition.

- Data Acquisition (DAQ): Set up program and operate various DAQ systems for data collection during physical tests (e.g. road load data acquisition component testing and 329 testing)

- Vehicle Data Interface: Setup onboard vehicle data (e.g. CAN) and integrate it with external sensors.

- Calibration and Validation: Perform routine and preventative maintenance calibration and validation checks on all instrumentation to ensure accuracy and traceability to established standards.

- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair electrical electronic and mechanical issues related to instrumentation wiring and DAQ hardware in a timely manner to minimize test delays.

- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of instrumentation deployment wiring schematics calibration certificates and troubleshooting logs.

- Support Engineering: Collaborate closely with Durability Engineers and test teams to understand testing requirements and provide technical guidance on the appropriate selection and placement of sensors.


Qualifications

- 2 years of experience working with instrumentation and data acquisition systems in an R&D testing or manufacturing environment preferably in the automotive aerospace or heavy equipment industries.

- Strong knowledge of electrical principles and experience with soldering wiring and harness fabrication.

- Proficiency in installing and troubleshooting common physical sensors (e.g. strain gauges accelerometers).

- Experience with common commercial data acquisition hardware and software; Preferred experience with Mars Labs

- Ability to read and interpret technical documents schematics wiring diagrams and engineering specifications.

- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

- Strong organizational and communication skills (written and verbal).

- Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
