About the role
As the Head of the Genomics Unit you will lead a high-performing multidisciplinary team in delivering a high-quality efficient and cost-effective diagnostic pathology service. You will apply your advanced professional expertise to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the laboratory overseeing scientific technical operational and data entry functions that support timely and accurate genomic testing. Your leadership will help maintain service excellence foster innovation and uphold the highest standards of diagnostic practice.
In this key operational role you will manage supervise and coordinate laboratory workflows ensuring seamless integration of processes across the unit. You will also contribute to the development and improvement of policies procedures and documentation that guide safe consistent and compliant laboratory practice. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders you will support the continuous advancement of genomic services that contribute to improved clinical outcomes for patients across South Australia.
About You
You are an experienced and forward-thinking scientific leader with deep expertise in diagnostic pathology and a strong commitment to service quality innovation and operational excellence. Confident in managing complex laboratory workflows you combine technical authority with strong interpersonal skills guiding teams improving systems and contributing expert advice that supports both clinical accuracy and organisational performance.
Educational/Vocational Qualifications Qualifications meeting NPAAC requirements for a medical scientist including an AQF Level 7 pathology-relevant degree (Australian or assessed equivalent) or an associate qualification conferred prior to December 1973.
Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills Strong leadership and coordination skills excellent communication and critical-thinking capability high-level analytical and scientific problem-solving ability adaptability to changing demands sound conflict-resolution skills attention to detail and the ability to drive service improvements manage staff performance and provide expert clinical interpretation.
Experience Extensive scientific experience across multiple pathology disciplines demonstrated ability to provide diagnostic services with reduced supervision proven background in quality systems human resource management budgeting advisory services change management data analysis literature review and reporting.
Knowledge Comprehensive understanding of diagnostic pathology NATA/NPAAC accreditation requirements quality frameworks regulatory standards public administration personnel management budgeting external quality assurance programs information systems Work Health & Safety and Equal Employment Opportunity principles.
