:59 PMRadio-Canada is seeking a Senior Reporter for its Toronto bureau. It is a permanent position.
You will be required to work on multiple platforms filing primarily for television but also for digital and radio as addition to having proven storytelling skills on all media platforms you must be able to work effectively in a continuous news environment and produce impact journalism. You must be independent resourceful and able to find and pitch your own stories of national interest.
To succeed in this position you must be interested in major issues in Ontario as well as any daily news that could have national repercussions. The person in this position may also be deployed elsewhere in Canada or the United States depending on operational needs for specific assignments. Work must adhere to CBC/Radio-Canadas journalistic and/or program policies standards and practices.
Key tasks:
Gather and research information on issues of national significance from a variety of local provincial and/or national sources.
Produce high-impact stories for television as well as reports or articles for digital platforms describing events and issues of national significance and providing in-depth analysis to enhance our audiences understanding.
Work closely with network program personnel and others in the planning and execution of coverage of significant national events either for national information programs or specials.
Recognize issues of significance and take immediate and effective action to ensure an appropriate level of coverage.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
Qualifications:
University degree or equivalent
Five (5) or more years reporting experience
Professional competencies:
Superior French-language skills
Advanced oral and reading proficiency and intermediate writing proficiency in English
Extensive general knowledge
In-depth knowledge of social political and economic affairs in Ontario coupled with deep knowledge of the Canadian and international news landscape
Ability to analyze synthesize and think critically about complex issues
Comfortable reporting live
Strong ability to present regional stories to a national audience
Strong writing and storytelling skills on TV radio and digital platforms
Thorough knowledge and understanding of CBC/Radio-Canadas Journalistic Standards and Practices
Behavioral skills:
Ability to be self-motivated and work independently
Ability to work effectively with reporters producers and technicians in Toronto and Montreal
Ability to take initiative to generate original relevant story ideas for Le téléjournal and digital platforms
Capable of original creative thought in producing stories
Proven ability to work well under pressure
Organizational and time management skills in order to meet production requirements
Other important criteria:
Availability to work early-morning evening and weekend shifts as needed
Ability and willingness to travel outside Ontario on short notice
Valid passport and drivers licence as well as a driving record that meets the criteria of CBC/Radio-Canadas insurer
Candidates must include a letter of interest in French detailing how their experience would be an asset to us.
