Description

SUMMARY

This position provides comprehensive diagnostic audiologic evaluations and amplification services to eligible patients and provides audiologic consultation to assigned medical specialty clinics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts developmentally-appropriate audiologic evaluations to assess hearing acuity middle ear function cochlear function the integrity of the auditory pathways and speech discrimination abilities
  • Makes appropriate medical habilitative and educational recommendations based upon diagnostic findings
  • Recommends orders and fits traditional hearing aids and bone conduction hearing systems based on audiologic evaluation age developmental level special needs of pediatric patients and family input.
  • Performs hearing aid and earmold fittings with appropriate verification measures (i.e. probe tube measurements; RECDs)
  • Provides instructions and appropriate counseling in the care and use of hearing devices and accessories to patients and families. Monitors progress and provides continuing education and recommendations regarding amplification
  • Performs non-sedated ABR evaluations for both threshold estimation and evaluation of retrocochlear function
  • Identifies assesses and determines audiologic candidacy for cochlear implantation and consults as a member of the cochlear implant team
  • Performs cochlear implant activations and subsequent mapping. Consults with speech providers to continue providing Aural Rehabilitation services as a team post-implantation
  • Provides ongoing education to parents families educators and other professionals regarding hearing loss and its impact on language learning and socialization. Provides information to parents and professionals regarding advances in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss
  • Participates in new staff orientation and ongoing staff education; mentors and provides training on areas of expertise or specialty as requested by Department Manager
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Competence in assessing retrocochlear and central auditory disorders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software skills
  • Skill in professional communication with staff and physicians involved in care to ensure quality patient outcomes and care coordination
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient personnel and corporate data
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Ability to collaborate with other providers to optimize patient care
  • Ability to select and use age- diagnosis- and developmentally-appropriate audiologic evaluation methods audiometric tests and other tools to evaluate hearing and middle-ear health
  • Ability to take ear impressions for the purpose of ordering earmolds and to determine the most appropriate earmold for the patient based on the childs age degree of hearing loss and anatomy
  • Ability to demonstrate competence in a variety of audiology-specific areas including the use of real-ear measures computerized hearing aid programming and measure otoacoustic emissions
  • Ability to make appropriate recommendations for amplification and hearing assistive technology based on diagnostic results and patient/family needs including traditional hearing aids bone conduction hearing devices cochlear implants remote microphones and other Bluetooth accessories
  • Ability to operate personal computer related office equipment diagnostic equipment and hearing aid software as needed to perform job function
  • Ability to effectively manage time with a proven ability to meet deadlines; organization and attention to detail

Qualifications

Education:

Masters or Doctoral Degree in Audiology required

Experience:

Two or more years pediatric experience preferred

Licenses and Certificates:

Arizona Department of Health Services Dispensing Audiologist Licensure required

AHCCCS Provider Identification Number required and obtained upon hire

BLS certification required

FINGERPRINT CLEARANCE
