(Up to a maximum of 24 hrs. per week schedule may vary due to vacations)
RATE OF PAY: As per schedule A - Unifor 2458 Part Time Collective Agreement

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
The Computer Operator provides computer operations support to the campus community.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
in identifying user-impacting issues regarding networks servers applications and other computer systems.
the guidance of system and application administrators assist in the organization of monitoring applications by grouping and tagging assets adding detail to items and setting thresholds for notifications.
Environmental systems (HVAC UPS etc.) and respond to issues when environmental issues are a concern.
and distribute daily and weekly reports as defined by IT management. These reports list outstanding and current issues summaries of server status summaries of security issues application and system health values from pre-defined data sources such as monitoring systems application dashboards and logging servers.
-ordinate the processing of infrastructure related tickets tasks and change requests in the ITSM system.
scheduled and ad hoc reboots of servers running either on physical servers or in virtual environments using privileged access authority periodically and when requested.
and uploading files submitting transactions into accounting and/or tracking systems assigning and tracking items in a database or list and decrypting and/or encrypting data for transmission or storage.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful applicant will have:
A diploma in a computer related field from a Community College; or equivalent (approximately 2 years) experience as it relates to the duties of the position.
Knowledge of Windows Server and Unix power up/power down; startup/shutdown procedures wired and wireless networking
Experience with operating in both Microsoft Windows and Unix desktop and server environments
Experience running operating systems natively and in a VMWare environment
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to operate printers including form set up toner replacement etc.
Ability to lift 40 pounds
Ability to work alone and/or with minimal supervision
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and have attention to detail
Ability to work in a confidential manner
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems along with providing excellent customer service
Ability to deal with a diverse student staff and faculty population
Ability to work rotating shifts (days and evenings)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A degree in Computer Science Computer Information Systems or Electrical Engineering
Experience with performing tasks associated with operating and monitoring Windows Server and Unix computer systems
Familiarity with computer applications and systems used by the University community
