The Superior Court of California County of Riverside is seeking an experienced legal professional to serve as a Hearing Officer an important quasi-judicial role appointed under Government Code section 71622.5. The Hearing Officer operates under the authority of the Courts Judges and at the direction of the Presiding Judge playing a vital role in conducting parole and post-release community supervision hearings and performing various judicial and quasi-judicial duties.

In this impactful role you will:

  • Conduct hearings and serve in a quasi-judicial capacity at the pleasure of the Presiding Judge.

  • Prepare and submit detailed reports on hearing outcomes.

  • Travel to multiple court locations to conduct proceedings as needed.

  • Perform judicially related functions as prescribed by law or directed by the Court.

  • Carry out other essential responsibilities that support fair and efficient court operations.

Candidates must meet one of the following minimum qualifications:

  • Attorney Track: Active member in good standing with the California State Bar for at least 10 consecutive years prior to appointment;

  • Judicial Track: Former California judge of a court of record within the past five years or currently eligible for the Assigned Judges Program;

  • Subordinate Judicial Officer Track: Former commissioner magistrate referee or hearing officer authorized to perform subordinate judicial officer duties within the last five years.

This Hearing Officer position offers:

Selection Procedures:


Step I: All applications will be reviewed to identify candidates who meet the minimum qualifications; those candidates deemed most qualified may be referred to step II in the selection process.

Step II: Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications may be reviewed by the Selection Committee. Successful candidates may be invited to participate in the examination process.

Step III: Those candidates that are successful in the previous step may be invited to an oral interview. Those candidates who are successful in the interview (weighted 100%) may be placed on the eligible hiring list. Placement on the eligible hiring list is not a guarantee of employment.
