POSITION SUMMARY
The Cellar Lead is a key leadership role within the production team responsible for executing and guiding a variety of winemaking activities. These include bottling fermentation support wine transfers filtration grape processing and general cellar work. This role works in close coordination with the Cellar Supervisor and the Associate Winemaker reporting directly to the Cellar Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee bottling operations including line setup crew supervision and equipment maintenance.
Lead grape processing including fruit unloading sorting and operation of crusher/de-stemmer and wine presses.
Coordinate and perform barrel and tank operations such as racking blending and filling.
Conduct wine additions and transfers using standard cellar equipment.
Maintain strict sanitation protocols for all production equipment and areas.
Assist with barrel management including movement stacking topping and stirring.
Help prepare and manage wine orders for shipment or delivery.
Supervise crush pad activities and manage grape intake logistics.
Operate winery machinery such as presses pumps and de-stemmers as needed.
Track bulk wine movements and complete work orders and equipment logs accurately.
Perform other cellar-related tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Solid technical understanding of winemaking and cellar operations.
Minimum 34 years of hands-on cellar experience in a mid-sized winery.
Proficiency in operating bottling equipment de-stemmers wine presses and related tools.
Forklift certification required.
Strong communication skills dependability and attention to detail.
Must be physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs standing or sitting for extended periods and working in varying indoor/outdoor conditions.
Flexibility to work early mornings evenings weekends and holidays as necessary.
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
High school diploma or GED required.
Fluent in English; Spanish proficiency is a plus.
Salary range 26-32 per hour DOE
