The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) role centers on the prevention of adverse health effects from occupational and environmental hazards within the work environment. The OHN fosters a holistic multidisciplinary approach in the delivery of safe quality and comprehensive occupational and environmental health programs aimed at preventive health care health promotion and health restoration. The OHN has the responsibility to coordinate designated components of OHS program as assigned and is expected to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to identify health and safety needs prioritize interventions develop and implement programs and evaluate care and delivery services for Mayo Clinic employees. The OHN is responsible for conducting health screenings for new/transfer employee candidates monitoring the work environment and data to assure the safety of workers coordinating surveillance programs for occupations at increased risk for exposure evaluating education and training programs providing case management to employees off of work or with restrictions so they can safely return to work. The occupational health nurse strives to ensure that all health and safety standards are met in an effort to safeguard the health and wellbeing of employees by coordinating with organizational workgroups to foster institutional compliance with laws regulations and standards governing health and hardware appropriate software utilization and critical thinking must be incorporated into daily job functions. A successful OHN will be able to: work autonomously and as a team member; demonstrate basic knowledge and advance his/her knowledge and skills in occupational health; keep current on best practices through evidence-based research consensus and guidelines; set priorities manage workload and meet deadlines; communicate effectively and build partnerships with a wide variety of healthcare team members and employees; effectively lead teams/committees/workgroups; provide case management of occupational and non-occupational illness and injuries; perform health hazard assessment and surveillance of worker populations.

This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.



Qualifications

Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program with successful experience as a Registered Nurse within the previous three years.1 year RN experience required.

An interest in contributing to unit leadership through program coordination process improvement and operational support. Current Occupational Hearing Conservationist Certification from the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) or commitment to become certified within 12 months of employment. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours which may include days evenings nights holidays and weekends and on-call. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership effective communicator and excellent critical thinking skills.

License and Certification:
Current RN license by applicable state requirements.

BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date acceptable BLS certificates are American Heart Association: BLS Provider or American Red Cross: Basic Life Support or CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers.

Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
