About the role

We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Senior Inspectors to join our Inspectorate team in Auckland Wellington Christchurch and Waikato.

As a Senior Inspector you will play a critical role in upholding the trust and confidence of the legal profession by ensuring compliance with trust account regulations and supporting the effective regulation of legal practice in New Zealand. As a Senior Inspector youll conduct trust account inspections using a risk-based approach investigate complex and nationally significant matters and prepare clear accurate reports and recommendations.

You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders including law firms banks and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with the relevant rules and regulations and promote best practice while also contributing to continuous improvement initiatives such as developing tools processes and education resources. This is a varied and challenging role that demands strong technical skills analytical thinking and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining discretion and professionalism at all times. Your expertise in accounting legal practice regulatory and/or investigative work will be the foundation for success in this role. Youll combine analytical thinking with clear communication ensuring law practices that operate a trust account understand and take responsibility for meeting their compliance obligations.

This is a great opportunity for someone with Practice Manager and/or trust account supervision experience.

What we are looking for:

  • Demonstrated investigative experience within legal practice and trust accounting regulatory compliance or enforcement environments.
  • High level of professionalism with the ability to build rapport and maintain trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advanced problem-solving capability with sound judgement and analytical thinking.
  • Confident communicator across all levels with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to produce clear concise and accurate documentation.
  • Familiarity with risk assessment frameworks and strong capability using audit software MS Excel and Word.
  • Ability to present evidence before the Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal and the courts if required.
  • Proven ability to work independently in the field while contributing effectively as a collaborative team member.
  • Trusted to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexibility and willingness to undertake a variety of work including national travel as required
