Job Summary
Senior Functional Safety / Risk Engineer
New Plymouth
Permanent - Full-time
As New Zealands electricity system evolvesdriven by electrification decarbonisation and changing risk profileswere strengthening our capability inquantitative risk functional safety and reliability engineering. Were looking for aSenior Functional Safety / Risk Engineerto play a key role in how we understand quantify and manage risk across our asset base.
This is aspecialist technical rolefor someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering analysis safety assurance and asset management decisionmaking.
The opportunity
In this role you will:
- Lead thedevelopment and application of quantitative risk approachesto understand external and assetrelated risks across the network
- Strengthen how risk insights informinvestment prioritisation AMP development and longterm planning
- Drive structuredreliability engineering and risk assessment practices including HAZOP LOPA RCM FMEA/FMECA and failure investigations
- Improve the quality and usefulness ofreliability models and forecasts(e.g. probability of failure deterioration modelling)
- Act as a trusted advisor to engineers planners and operational teamsbridging analysis and practical decisionmaking
Youll work collaboratively across asset planning fleet engineering design operations and maintenance contributing to safer outcomes better performance and value for customers.
What youll bring
Were keen to hear from engineers who can bring both depth and perspective. Youll likely have:
- Adegree in Electrical Engineering(or closely related discipline)
- 812 years experiencein the electricity energy or heavy industrial sector
- Experience or strong exposure to:
- Quantitative risk methods such as LOPA bowtie fault tree analysis
- Functional safety concepts and assurance practices
- Reliability engineering RCM (ideally RCM2) FMEA/FMECA
- A working understanding ofdistribution networks substations and electrical asset failure modes
- The ability to translate complex analysis intoclear practical insightsfor diverse audiences
Just as importantly youll bring a systems mindset intellectual curiosity and a collaborative approach.
