Structural Lead Engineer

Westwood Professional Services Inc is seeking a Structural Lead Engineer responsible for overseeing the design analysis and implementation of structural engineering projects. This role involves leading a team of engineers and collaborating with other disciplines to ensure that projects are completed on time within budget and to the required quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the structural engineering team focused on solar energy projects providing guidance mentorship and support to engineers and designers.
- Accountable to project deliverable quality
- Provide guidance and review of proposal efforts and invoicing for the structural scope of solar energy projects.
- Implement engineering processes training and best practices tailored to the unique challenges of solar energy projects including innovative design solutions for PV racking system and ancillary structure foundations.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations drawings and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with architects contractors and other engineering disciplines to develop integrated solutions.
- Mentor and train junior engineers and technical staff.
- Manage project budgets schedules and resources effectively.
- Communicate project status and technical information to clients and stakeholders.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure quality and adherence to design specifications.
Required Skills
- Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in structural engineering with 1-2 years in a managerial or leadership role specifically in the solar energy sector.
- Proven experience in managing complex engineering projects related to solar energy including knowledge of solar array design racking systems and typical subgrade challenges.
- Strong knowledge of shallow and deep foundation systems soil structure interaction construction techniques and remediation techniques for shallow and deep foundations on large scale engineering projects.
- Strong knowledge of structural design software and tools relevant to solar energy projects. Software such as LPile Risa 3D STAAD Pro Autodesk Revit Autodesk Robot FEA modeling techniques
- Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards such as IBC ASCE 7 AISC 360 ACI 318 NDS
- Excellent communication leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Experience
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in structural engineering with 2-3 years in a managerial or leadership role specifically in the solar energy sector.
- A proven ability to provide innovative solutions to improve efficiency of deliverables motivate and engage staff.
