We Are DigDeep
The DigDeep Right to Water Project is a WASH (water sanitation and hygiene) organization committed to closing the water access gap for the 2 million people in the U.S. who still dont have a tap or a toilet at home.
DigDeepbelieves access to clean water is a human right. We run several nationally recognized programs that empower communities to build their own water and sanitation systems. We won the 2018 US Water Prize for our Navajo Water Project which has brought clean running water to hundreds of Native families across New Mexico Arizona and Utah. DigDeep launched the Appalachia Water Project in 2020 in McDowell County WV. It has since brought clean sustainable running water to hundreds of families in Southern West Virginia through public - private partnerships with the McDowell County PSD and East Logan PSD in Wyoming addition to clean running water the project is installing septic systems and connecting households to centralized sewer. The AWP is now expanding into neighboring states of Kentucky and Virginia to continue its quest of clean water for every Appalachian family. Our water projects expanded in 2022 when we launched our Colonias Water Project. This project works to bring clean running water to the residents living in communities along the Texas-Mexico border. The Texas colonias are largely unincorporated low-income communities that fall just outside city limits and often lack basic infrastructure. Our work began in Cochran colonia near El Paso. DigDeep partnered with residents housing nonprofits and county officials to innovate a new model for public-private-partnership that brings these basic services to families for the first time. Now were getting the water flowing in 5 more communities.
The Opportunity
DigDeep is looking for a collaborative organized analytical detail-oriented person to join our growing Appalachia Water Project team as the Field Supervisor. Reporting to the Director Appalachia Water Project the Field Supervisor works closely with the Director to help ensure overall project priorities are on track as they align with the organizations Work Plan. The Field Supervisor must be adept at assessing daily/weekly tasks and adjusting as it applies to the needs of the project. Our Field Supervisors work closely with Water & Sanitation Technicians (W&S Technicians) as well as regularly interact with community members donors press and departments and team members across the organization. You will be the liaison between team members and the Director therefore you should be comfortable supervising as well reporting out and following the lead of management. As such we are looking for someone with proven experience supervising people creating schedules and delegating tasks who also has experience regularly and successfully liaising between internal and external stakeholders while balancing the immediate needs of the project.
Key Responsibilities
This is what youll do once you join the team:
- Create work schedules for and monitor attendance of W&S Technicians
- Allocate daily tasks and site work of W&S Technicians according to project priorities and plans
- Support Director in overall planning as it aligns to short-term project priorities and goals
- Delegate individual responsibilities and projects to W&S Technicians
- Supervise and train new and current W&S Technicians as needed
- Ensure manpower and resources are adequate to complete daily and short-term projects and to meet safety need and ensure best practices
- Oversee and supervise the use of machinery heavy equipment
- Ensure all safety precautions and quality standards are met by providing training and guidance as needed in a variety of areas including but not limited to: safe use of tools machinery safety gear hard hats and heavy equipment
- Complete assigned health and safety trainings including but not limited to: OSHA 30 reasonable suspicion etc.) before beginning field work required and as assigned (including review sessions) throughout employment
- Oversee site installations; traveling from site to site to ensure installations are on track to completion and to support crew with any guidance needed
- Support inventory management of project site parts and tools: regularly monitoring and tracking inventory proactively ordering supplies before levels are low and submitting receipts and invoices
- Perform routine quality control checks on installations
- Troubleshoot and problem solve minor daily onsite issues when needed
- When Director is not present resolve minor conflicts or miscommunications quickly and amicably between crew members; informing Director immediately
- Act as a liaison between between crew and Director
- Act as liaison between DigDeep and community members answering questions providing reassurance and clarity as needed
- Support Director in performance management and annual reviews of W&S Technicians
- Regularly report project status to Director
- Assist with ad-hoc projects and support other tasks/duties as assigned.
