The Buildings & Grounds Division (B&G) is responsible for the Capitol Campus and Department of Enterprise Services (DES) managed building operations stewardship and historic preservation. B&G provides service to over 42 agencies maintains operates and preserves the 486-acre state Capitol Campus in Olympia including more than 28 buildings 18 public monuments over 6000 parking stalls four state parks and a 260-acre lake. B&G executes these responsibilities through the following service programs: Facilities Operations Grounds Operations Leadership and Admin Maintenance & Repairs Support Services (Custodial).

About the Opportunity:

As a Maintenance Mechanic 2 you will maintain and repair a variety of HVAC and mechanical systems including steam boilers central steam distribution components air handlers VAV units dampers belts pulleys and refrigeration equipment used in air conditioning and ventilation. You will analyze troubleshoot and service electrical electronic and pneumatic control systems as well as lay out fabricate and install temperature and humidity controls. You will also perform preventive maintenance on water-treatment systems such as cooling towers and chilled/hot water loops monitor and adjust building control systems conduct HVAC operations and repairs and develop cost estimates to support maintenance planning.

Duties

Some of What Youll Enjoy Doing Includes:

Perform operation maintenance alterations and repairs on HVAC systems.
Work with a journeyman HVAC tech to install maintain diagnose and repair steam heating components including boilers steam distribution systems and related equipment.
Maintain and repair commercial refrigeration equipment for air conditioning ventilation and chilled water systems.
Inspect maintain and repair heating water cooling refrigeration plumbing and sewer systems.
Repair relays timers meters and switches including those with computer-controlled systems; read and interpret blueprints.
Monitor analyze adjust and troubleshoot HVAC building control systems including electrical electronic and pneumatic sensors and actuators.
Lay out fabricate and install mechanical pneumatic electrical and electronic temperature and humidity controls for heating and ventilation systems.
Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED.
Current EPA universal refrigerant handling certification or agreement to obtain this certification within 6 months of hire.
Valid motor vehicle operators license free from serious traffic violations.
Ability to use hand and power tools to accomplish HVAC work.
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade ORFour (4) years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance construction or repair work.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to perform skilled HVAC work.
Knowledge of standard practices methods materials tools and equipment used in the HVAC trade.
Knowledge of current HVAC electrical codes and electrical safety precautions.
Ability to work from blueprints plans and sketches; and estimate labor and materials required to accomplish the work.
