Job Duties

Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year residential liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities regionand its rural setting featuring 750 acres of wetlands bucolic forest and the states oldest and largest pecan grove.

Richard Bland College is currently seeking an exceptional English Professor to serve in a permanent non-tenure track full-time position (with the option of renewal based upon performance and college policy). The primary role of these positions is to provide college-level instruction and academic-related activities designed to encourage support and enable student addition to teaching English at all levels and supporting development of stronger interdisciplinary ties with other departments duties include student advising and committee service under our shared governance structure as part of the Language & Humanities Department at the College. Reporting to the Chair of the Language & Humanities these faculty members will be an integral part of our academic community.

Job Specifications:

This positions major responsibilities include:

Teaching English courses in accordance with college and departmental policies and procedures.
Preparing and submitting timely grade reports and other reports on student performance as required.
Organizing class activities and assignments relating them to the overall learning outcomes of the courses.
Providing input and working with other faculty and staff to review produce and/or select course related materials.

Minimum Qualifications

Terminal Degree in English (or a closely related discipline).
Demonstrated knowledge of the subject area(s) of instruction.
Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and instruction.
Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of first- and second-year college students.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and collaborative style.

Additional Considerations

Considerable experience teaching in a higher education environment preferably at the junior college/community level.
Evidence of teaching effectiveness including the ability to effectively respond to the academic needs of learners from diverse backgrounds identities and experiences.
