Polytechnic School is looking for an experienced and dynamic 6th-grade math teacher who above all loves working with Middle School students and values and affirms the unique contributions of each child in the school community. Polys 6th-grade math is a fast-paced and rigorous pre-algebra course. Students develop conceptual understanding mathematical fluency and good habits of study in preparation for 7th-grade mathematics study. The successful candidate will join a math department that values collegiality flexibility and views as its mission to help students become mathematically literate and appreciate and enjoy problem solving and critical thinking.
Reporting to the director of the Middle School the successful candidate will take a student-centered approach to all school work and will use the schools mission to design and support the academic extracurricular social and emotional success of students.
Responsibilities
Four courses per academic semester/year plus serving as an Advisor.
Preparation of course materials in collaboration with the math department including syllabi homework assignments assessments and supplementary materials.
Interest in fostering diversity inclusion and social justice to promote a healthy learning environment.
Engage robustly in fostering diversity equity and inclusion to promote a healthy learning environment;
Administration and timely evaluation of classwork assignments and assessments.
Preparation and maintenance of student attendance records grades comments and other required records.
Planning evaluation and revision of curricula course content course materials and methods of instruction.
Providing assistance and advice to students during Study Halls and before and after school.
Collaboration with members of the math department the Middle School faculty and the entire K-12 community.
Regular participation in professional development opportunities to maintain and grow expertise in the subject matter and the craft of teaching.
Enthusiastic participation in the greater life of the school including the Middle School Outdoor Education program as well as extracurricular activities as an advisor or spectator and chaperone.
Be knowledgeable in new trends and developments within mathematics education
Be available to parents students administration and colleagues outside the school day when needed.
Willingness to take on other duties as needed.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines as well as a diverse array of contacts.
Work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment.
Work intermittently in outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.

BA/BS degree. Advanced degree(s) preferred.
At least three years of teaching experience; preferably with Middle School students;
Solid understanding of pre-adolescent development strong communication skills and a passion for teaching this age level;
Ability to manage competing demands and adapt to frequent or unexpected changes.
Ability to work collaboratively and methodically with students parents faculty and staff on a regular basis.
Ability to use effective class management techniques.
