Lower Merion School District is hiring anAssistant Principal atHarriton High School.
This is a 216-day Act 93 position subject to the LMOSA (Act 93) Agreement. Salary determined based on experience and related criteria.
Job Responsibilities:
Assists the principal in the operation of the school including responsibility for: evaluation and supervision of staff curriculum development; scheduling of students; staff development; maintenance of school plant; supervision of extra-curricular and athletic activities; preparation of school budget; supervision of school discipline and counseling; implementation of special education programs; orientation of new personnel; public relations. To this end the primary duties of the Assistant Principal are as follows:
- Supervise and evaluate staff both formal and informal professional and supportive; may be responsible for a department.
- Be responsible for the development implementation and evaluation of the curriculum and recommendations for improvements.
- Develop and implements the master schedule; supervises course selections for students.
- Provide for sustained job-embedded professional learning for staff to include design/facilitation of profession learning sessions facilitation of team/department meetings observation of classroom instruction and communication of feedback announcement of conferences distribution of articles and leadership of school-level committees.
- Assist with maintenance of the school plant through the supervision of the custodial staff and serves as liaison with the Operations Department.
- Supervise various educational programs including assemblies special events extra-curricular and athletic activities.
- Assist the building principal to prepare and administer portions of the school budget; processes budgetary requests and monitors expenditures for internal accounts.
- Supervise school discipline and counseling programs which requires working with staff students and parents.
- Work with parents students teachers and staff to implement policies and guidelines for special education programs.
- Assist with the recruitment hiring retention and assignment of staff; provides orientation in-service training and review of policy and procedures.
- In conjunction with the building principal implement a public relations program through the maintenance of a school social media account presence writing of articles newsletters design of school brochures and handbooks and serves as District representative to various District and community committees/groups.
- Serve as a key team member in supporting diversity equity and inclusion initiatives related to school operations staffing instruction and all other relevant functions.
- Serve as a leader in the establishment of a positive building climate for staff members and students.
- Serve as Principal in the absence of the Principal if so designated.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Ability to work effectively with students teachers administrators and community members.
- Must demonstrate a high level of emotional intelligence; must be empathetic.
- Must be able to analyze complex situations.
- Able to focus on many tasks or issues at the same time and for extended periods of time.
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Able to maintain emotional control under stress and/or in controversial and/or confrontational situations frequently in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to sit; stand; walk up to at least 7 hours/day.
- Occasionally bend kneel squat use hands and fingers for repetitive motion; climb stairs.
- Must be able to drive to and from multiple locations in the District.
Education Experience and Licensing:
- PA Certificate as Principal (Secondary or K-12) or comparable Out-of-State Certificate with eligibility to convert to PA Certification.
- At least five (5) years of teaching experience
- Prior experience as a Building Administrator preferred
- Experience at the Secondary level preferred
- Demonstrated success as instructional leader
- Knowledge of curriculum instruction and assessment and PA Standards
- Strong interpersonal skills with outstanding ability to communicate with students staff administrators parents/guardians and community members
- Masters degree required.
- Experience as a special education teacher or supervisor is preferred for this position.
