The WFP Innovation Accelerator was named by Fast Company as Most Innovative Non-Profit Organization 2021 for its work in identifying nurturing and scaling disruptive start-ups and innovations to end global hunger. Based in Munich Germany the Innovation Accelerator provides WFP employees entrepreneurs and start-ups with funding hands-on support and access to WFPs global operations. Through the Innovation Accelerator WFP is leveraging unprecedented advances in digital innovation - such as mobile technology artificial intelligence and blockchain - and new business models to transform the way it serves vulnerable communities across the 2021 Accelerator supported innovations that positively impacted the lives of 9 million people globally. Most recently the Accelerator runs programmes for external partners such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and others.
More information here: and incumbent reporting to the Head of Strategic Finance is expected to:
Plan and implement financial reporting ensuring outcomes of projects are in accordance with corporate governance requirements ensuring accuracy deadlines and accounting processes are complied with:Collate data and insure the preparation of accurate and timely reporting;
Contribute to the delivery of financial controls and insight into WFP performance supporting periodic financial and risk assessments to identify areas which may present potential audit compliance or financial risks;
Monitor budgets and carry out forecasting for new and ongoing projects according to established corporate procedures and requirements;
Record financial entries in WINGS such as through journal vouchers (JVs);
Contribute to the monthly bank reconciliation and activities such as review the Monthly Minimum Closure Package replenishment of the bank account overall cash to ensure activities are performed regularly and in accordance with corporate requirements and timely submitted;
Design implement and monitor standard processes linked to monthly quarterly and yearly activities following (including VAT).
Deliver accurate financial reporting in accordance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) ensuring accuracy deadlines and compliance with accounting processes and corporate governance requirements.
Support corporate finance and resource management strategies by contribution to policy and procedures embedding value for money financial assessment reporting and accounting.
Support the innovation accelerator build-up operations & management:Collate information and support analysis & content preparation (PowerPoint presentations data analysis reports briefs etc.) for corporate priority topics and executive management meetings;
Support the proposal of innovative financial solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations minimize risk and align services with business objectives;
Liaise with colleagues in other divisions or external stakeholders as needed;
Support the Head of the Innovation Accelerator and the Director INN with any other activities as required.
Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance Masters degree a plus.
Experience: At least three (3) years of work experience in the relative business stream with experience in general financial and administrative work. UN finance and accounting experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the UN World Food Programme.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English with an intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic Chinese French Russian and Spanish) is desirable.
