JOB TITLE:

POST AWARD COSTING & REPORTING SPECIALIST II

JOB PURPOSE:

Serve as a senior member of the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) Costing and Reporting team by providing leadership in sponsored project reporting compliance and financial analysis. Act as a functional lead for post-award systems development of the Facilities and Administration (F&A) rate proposal and redistribution of F&A recovery. The position is responsible for producing accurate sponsored programs reports assisting with preparation of sponsor and institutional surveys developing campus training and recommending process improvements. The Specialist II applies advanced knowledge of federal state and institutional regulations to safeguard compliance and ensure accurate representation of UWs research enterprise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as the OSP Post Award functional lead for sponsored projects management systems.
Serve as a lead for periodic system upgrades for the Post Award platforms and financial system.
Serve as the lead on data systems training programs.
Review eRA and financial system attributes continually to ensure data integrity.
Lead the preparation and distribution of the quarterly indirect cost recovery.
Assist with the preparation and testing of externally funded award metrics/reporting.
Assist with the annual Federal Single Audit process and coordinate other sponsor-specific external and internal audits as may be required.
Review and support calculation of Service Center rates annually.
Manage the annual sub-recipient monitoring process and assist in evaluating the financial risk of outgoing sub-awards and make recommendations to management as necessary.
Communicate with management regarding compliance with funding agency rules and regulations as necessary.
Recommend alternative solutions to management as to courses of action that best meet the organizations goals. Facilitate business process re-engineering by providing recommendations to improve division-wide efficiencies through technology.
Maintain thorough knowledge of government University and specialized regulations and policies which impact service centers effort reporting sub-recipient monitoring etc.
Independently manage assigned financial month-end close and scheduled processes.
Supervise the Costing and Reporting team in the absence of the Costing and Reporting Manager.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelors degree in accounting cost accounting financial management information systems business analytics or a related field; or equivalent relevant work experience.

Experience: 3 years work-related experience

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Broad understanding of and experience using an Oracle-based or comparable financial management system
  • Prior work experience providing support at an Institution of Higher Education

  • A strong customer service orientation and attention to details are essential
  • Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Prior experience in post-award management

Skills and Abilities to:

  • Provide expert-level Research Administration consulting and advice.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working with financial data.
  • Strong computer applications skillset including spreadsheets databases graphs charts and a computerized accounting system.
