LOCATION: Apply Digital is hybrid/remote friendly the successful candidate is expected to be in office 2-3 times a week from our London UK office.

THE ROLE:

At Apply Digital Engineering Managers are accountable for the success of our engineering talentand for ensuring that talent drives strong outcomes for our clients and our business.

This is a technical team leadership role focused on team effectiveness delivery health and career development. Youll work across multiple initiatives helping engineers stay effective through shifting priorities evolving processes and real-world delivery constraints. When pressure rises youll know when to shield your teamand when to push for more.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role isnt about having all the answers on day oneits about showing up curious adaptable and invested in your team.

In the early months youll build strong relationships help engineers navigate complexity and bring calm clear thinking to shifting priorities. Over time youll grow into a key voice in talent development delivery health and shaping how we scale our engineering culture across Applyincluding how we evolve our delivery approaches technical practices and organizational structure. You wont just operate within systemsyoull help build and improve them.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Supporting and growing engineers: Provide coaching feedback and development opportunities to help individuals thrive and progress in their careers.
    • Shaping our practices: Collaborate with other EMs and leaders to improve how we grow support and scale engineering across the organization. Help define and evolve our approach to integrating emerging technologies particularly AI into our delivery capabilities.
    • Fostering team health: Support a growing team of engineers across multiple customer experience projectstypically web and app buildsensuring workloads are sustainable and collaboration stays strong.
    • Navigating ambiguity: Help your team stay focused through shifting priorities organizational change and evolving tech needs.
    • Contributing to delivery: While you wont be hands-on with code youll help projects stay healthy by ensuring staffing is appropriate risks are surfaced early and engineers are supported in making sound consistent technical decisions. This includes guiding teams in the development and implementation of AI-driven solutions.
    • Hiring and onboarding: Partner with our talent team to recruit evaluate and onboard great engineers.
    • Working across regions: Collaborate with global peers to support distributed teams share practices and coordinate staffing needs across time zones and clients.
    • Supporting performance: Provide regular feedback help resolve challenges and ensure expectations are clear achievable and aligned with Applys values.

REQUIREMENTS

    • Leadership in technical environments: Youve led engineering teamsbig or smalland understand how to guide them through delivery growth and change. Experience in an agency or consulting environment is a strong asset especially if youve balanced delivery needs with people support.
    • Strong engineering foundation: Youre confident operating at the solution design level and can engage deeply enough with technical discussions to support decision-making hiring and team guidance. You understand modern software practices and know how to assess technical choiceseven if youre not the one writing the code.
    • AI Leadership & Innovation: You bring demonstrated experience in leading teams that have successfully developed or integrated AI-driven solutions or you bring experience accelerating the adoption of AI tools processes and techniques for delivery of software testing and project delivery is highly desired.
    • People-first mindset: You care about growing individuals and teams. Youve given feedback mentored engineers and helped people navigate both opportunity and challenge.
    • Strong technical expertise: proficiency in React AWS GCP SaaS platforms and microservices architecture is highly preferred.
    • Cross-functional collaboration: Youre experienced in working with project managers other engineering leaders and internal stakeholders like client partners directors and People & Culture. While youre not client-facing day to day youre comfortable navigating organizational complexity and surfacing the right voices at the right time.
    • Comfort with ambiguity: You can navigate evolving org structures shifting client needs and a whole lot of we havent figured that out yet without losing your footing. You know how to bring clarity when its missing surface tensions constructively and step into uncomfortable situations to keep people aligned and work on track.
    • Global teamwork: Youve worked with distributed teamsor are confident in your ability to learn how to thrive in that environment. You value diverse perspectives and approach cross-regional collaboration with cultural awareness curiosity and respect.
    • A growth mindset: Youre not here to coastyoure here to help shape something. Whether thats growing a team refining a process or contributing to org-wide efforts like hiring leveling or culture-building youre in it for the long game.
