Job Summary

The Community Wellbeing & Social Inclusion Lead designs and delivers culturally grounded programs that strengthen Elders independence connection and wellbeing. The role leads Social Support programs cultural and recreational activities intergenerational programs and Elders Centre operations while overseeing Lifestyle Workers and the Program Support Officer. It ensures Elders experience culturally safe inclusive and meaningful activities aligned with aged care standards and GEGACs One Model of Care.

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 190 staff GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health Social Services Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.

GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social emotional and spiritual wellbeing with culture at the heart of everything we do.

Position Purpose

The Community Wellbeing & Social Inclusion Lead is responsible for designing coordinating and leading culturally grounded programs that strengthen Elders independence social connection cultural identity and emotional wellbeing.

The role provides leadership across:

Social Support Group (CHSP SaH and HACC PYP)

Social Support Individual (CHSP SaH and HACC PYP)

Elders wellbeing cultural recreational and community programs

Intergenerational activities

Cultural events ceremonies and community outings

Elders centre operations MondayThursday

Oversight of Lifestyle Workers and the Program Support Officer

This position ensures that Elders experience culturally safe inclusive meaningful activities that align with the Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards wellness and reablement principles and GEGACs One Model of Care.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Experience planning and delivering group activities social programs recreational initiatives or community connection programs ideally with Aboriginal Elders or diverse community groups.
  • Ability to create culturally safe inclusive accessible and trauma-informed environments demonstrating respect for Aboriginal identity culture Elders rights and wellbeing.
  • Strong organisational skills including the ability to coordinate transport venues risk assessments equipment bookings communication and program documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognise and escalate Elder Abuse safety concerns wellbeing risks deterioration and incidents in line with SIRS and GEGAC procedures.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to support Elders families volunteers and internal teams in a respectful and culturally informed manner.
  • Ability to maintain records documentation attendance reports and program data supporting CHSP and Support at Home reporting and internal quality processes.
  • Ability to contribute to continuous improvement participate in supervision and training and support a collaborative culturally safe team environment.

Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).

  • Relevant qualification or experience in community services recreation disability aged are cultural programs or group facilitation. ESSENTIAL
  • Ability and willingness to maintain current First Aid and CPR certification to ensure safe response to incidents medical changes falls or emergencies in client homes. ESSENTIAL
  • Valid Drivers Licence: A current and unrestricted Victorian Drivers Licence is essential as the role involves regular travel across the Gippsland and East Gippsland region to engage with community staff service sites and external stakeholders. ESSENTIAL
  • A satisfactory Victorian Working with Childrens Check and a satisfactory National Police Check (Aged Care / Vulnerable Persons Sector) and NDIS Worker Screening Clearance ESSENTIAL
  • Ability to meet occupational vaccination requirements for workers supporting vulnerable people including providing evidence of immunisation history and recommended vaccinations and proof of COVID-19 vaccination to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
  • A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE
