THIS IS A PART-TIME GRANT-FUNDED POSITION FUNDED UNTIL JULY 29 2026 (20 HOURS PER WEEK)

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Nursing Research Programs is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team for a one-year full-time project focused on cancer education and screening. This position plays a pivotal role in educating individuals and communities about breast prostate and colorectal cancer and promoting awareness of screening tests.



Responsibilities
  1. Provides education to individuals about breast prostate and colorectal cancer including risk factors prevention strategies and the importance of early detection through screening tests.
  2. Distributes educational materials.
  3. Administers breast colorectal and prostate cancer screening questionnaires to participants during mobile van outreach events.
  4. Provides colorectal or PSA test kits as needed.
  5. Refers participant to local healthcare providers for follow-up care as necessary.
  6. Educates future nursing students about the burdens of cancer and cancer prevention and treatment.
  7. Serves as a resource for nursing students by sharing insights into the role of nurses in reducing cancer.
  8. Serves as a key member of the mobile van team delivering cancer education and screenings to Shelby County and surrounding areas.
  9. Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth operations during mobile outreach events at churches health fairs local health departments and other community locations.
  10. Build relationships with community members to promote trust and engagement in the program.
  11. Maintains accurate records of participant interactions including completed questionnaires and distributed test kits.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:Registered Nurse (R.N.)(TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE:One (1) year of relevant experience. (Experience in community health nursing or oncology nursing is highly desirable.)

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:Must hold a valid and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Tennessee. (CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES

  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants and educate.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing data collection and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
