Job Summary

Overview

This part-time position helps with basic daily care of the Kaysville Equine Assisted Services (EAS) horses. Responsibilities include feeding watering and simple barn chores as needed. The role is straightforward and focused on supporting the horses everyday needs. Training will be provided and no prior experience is requiredjust reliability and a willingness to help. The projected schedule is for this position to feed horses each evening seven days per week for approximately 1 1/2 hours per day (approximately 11 hours per week). This position could provide more hours based on Equine Assisted Services programming or additional horses added to the horse herd. If time off is need the successful candidate would need to let the supervisor know in advance so that a substitute can be scheduled to care for the horses.

Responsibilities

  • Feed horses according to the established schedule
  • Provide clean fresh water for the herd
  • Check that all horses are eating and drinking normally
  • Complete basic barn chores such as sweeping or refilling hay nets
  • Notify supervisor of any concerns with horses or facility
  • Follow safety guidelines while working around horses
  • Keep feed and barn areas tidy and organized

Qualifications

  • Must be reliable and ability to follow a set schedule
  • Comfortable being around horses (training provided)
  • Willingness to follow safety guidelines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good communication when issues or concerns come up

This position requires moderate physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds for hay water buckets etc.) walking bending stooping kneeling and squatting. This position requires nearly continuous standing repetitive hand motions and reaching overhead. Employees may be exposed to unusual elements including extreme temperatures dust unpleasant odors hay and grain dust and/or loud noises. This position will be around horses and the successful employee must be comfortable being around horses.

The Equine Assisted Services horses are located at the Davis Agriculture Heritage Center (indoor and outdoor arena stalls and outdoor corrals) that is located on the Utah State University Botanical Center in Kaysville.
