This Field Audit Manager position manages and is the subject matter expert for the Audit divisionsOut-of-State Southarea.
This Field Audit Manager position is the subject matter expert for tax administration audit policies and procedures excise tax rules and laws taxpayer rights agency responsibilities management principles and personnel rules. The position is accountable for significant contributions (Multi-millions) of revenue to the state general fund local governments and dedicated accounts. The position also controls spending related to travel training supplies and small equipment.

The location of this position is typically based in Tumwater; however Audit Division leadership will consider assigning a different duty station provided that the incumbent is able to be physically present in the Tumwater office on an acceptable schedule and as needed. A non-Tumwater station may be negotiated depending upon the selected incumbents current geographic location. Other options may include relocation reimbursement to Tumwater or the surrounding area.
The Audit Division is the primary enforcement arm of the Department of Revenue and is responsible for a national enforcement program intended to promote voluntary compliance. The division has 300 employees located in 14 offices across Washington and in various cities throughout the United States. The divisions efforts include Field Audit Account Research and Desk Exam Computer Assisted Audit and Public Works Clearance.

This position requires an understanding of current technology including computer hardware software and databases; sampling (both random and statistical) and evaluation methods; advanced functions and capabilities of computing equipment and software and their applications; and electronic data processing systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree with a major in accounting or other related field which includes 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of college level accounting and three to four years of professional auditing or accounting experience.
Additional experience in tax administration tax policy or in tax auditing may substitute year-for-year for the education.
Ability to manage and remotely direct staff; interpret and articulate excise tax rules policies and procedures; effectively coordinate both horizontal and vertical echelons; and analyze internal administrative and audit systems and procedures.
Knowledge of the Washington Revenue Act of 1935 as amended; rules policies and court decisions affecting the audit program; principles and procedures of accounting and auditing.
Working knowledge and full utilization of skills in management principles communication techniques personnel rules and regulations direct and remote supervision mentoring coaching motivating team building performance assessment and OFM travel regulations.
The following are desirable:
Certified Public Accountant Certified Management Accountant Certified Internal Auditor or Certified Fraud Examiner.
