We are seeking a Director of Environmental Health Safety and Security (EHSS) to join our team at our corporate headquarters in Duncan SC. The EHSS Manufacturing Director is responsible for leading and supporting environment health safety and security strategy and initiatives across the global manufacturing system. This role serves as the primary resource to drive safety culture EHSS performance and the identification and mitigation of risk.

Responsibilities
Leadership & Engagement

  • Provide EHSS leadership for the manufacturing organization.
  • Become the trusted EHSS advisor to the SVP Manufacturing
  • Understand the goals for the business and for each manufacturing site; know the plans for achieving them.
  • Maximize your presence where the risk exists and spend time in the field not just in the office.
  • Promote AFLs core values and EHSS goals across the organization.
  • Develop and monitor a balanced EHSS scorecard for the organization.
  • Serve as a leader on the Global EHSS and Global Manufacturing teams.

People Development

  • Lead the EHSS manufacturing teams and provide guidance consistent with the business and EHSS strategies.
  • Mentor EHSS leaders and build development plans for EHSS personnel.
  • Coach and give feedback to improve line EHSS leadership.

Risk Recognition & Mitigation

  • Identify and highlight EHSS risks; lead and influence the manufacturing teams to mitigate them effectively.
  • Use data to help teams understand performance identify improvement opportunities and apply lessons learned from incidents.

Training & Compliance

  • Provide assurance that AFL is complying across all aspects of EHSS in manufacturing.
  • Build EHSS skills and capabilities into the line and staff organization.

Incident Management & Investigations

  • Provide guidance on incident investigation near-misses hazard reports and employee concerns. Emphasis should be on Significant Incidents Fatality Potential Events.
  • Identify enterprise-wide trends and recommend mitigation strategies verify follow-up.

Assurance & Auditing

  • Initiate audit and assurance processes to verify enterprise-wide compliance across EHSS as necessary including ISO certification where appropriate.
  • Lead the development of effective audit and verification processes prioritizing areas of highest risk.

Program Development & Collaboration

  • Communicate and deploy AFL EHSS initiatives across the manufacturing system.
  • Diagnose what needs to get done to reduce risk and make it happen in a collaborative way.

Hazard Assessment

  • Develop the hazard/risk assessments and risk register processes and implement the processes jointly with the line leaders.

Administrative Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned including special projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in an EHS-related field engineering business and/or 10 or more years of EHSS experience.
  • Leadership of large (800 person ) site and/or multiple site leadership; ready to manage a complex global EHSS function.
  • Knowledge of OSHA NFPA EPA NIOSH standards and industry best practices.
  • Experience in construction and interfacing with general contractors and subcontractors.
  • Knowledge and experience driving cultural change.
  • Design and implementation of EHS Management Systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory roles and General Duty Clause
  • Experience in inspection verification and audit practices
  • Knowledge of learning and development fundamentals
  • In-depth knowledge of safety culture principles

Working Conditions

  • Normal office and manufacturing facility environment. Some travel may be required but not frequent (<15%).
