Nature of Work

Thefundamental reason this position exists is to provide strategic leadership andoversight of the Emergency Communications Department which includes E-911radio wireless and land communication systems. This is responsibleadministrative and management work in planning organizing staffingdirecting and controlling the operations and maintenance of the EmergencyCommunications Center its employees facilities equipment and grounds. Majorduties include developing implementing and enforcing policies and proceduresfor the overall administration and generally overseeing all departmentactivities. The Director of Emergency Communications reports to the MayorsChief of Staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university inPublic Administration Business Emergency Management or a closely relatedfield and five (5) years of experience in a management position in an E-911communications center equal in programmatic and geographical size to the Cityof Montgomery to include supervision of subordinate supervisors budgetmanagement and resource management.

NOTE:Qualifying education training and experience that provide therequisite knowledge skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must be willing to work nights weekends andholidays and willing to be on-call to respond to emergency incidents as needed.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancyand any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancyis with theCity of Montgomery Emergency Communications Department.Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held the dates they held them where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five (5) or less qualified applicants they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
