The Seasonal Roads Crew position will assist with the construction repair and maintenance of parking lots roads and related infrastructure throughout the Forest Preserve locations. This position will teach operating equipment performing asphalt and gravel maintenance and supporting the upkeep of safe accessible areas for public use.
What Youll Do
- Support routine maintenance of asphalt and gravel roads including seal coating crack routing and filling sweeping patching gravel application and pothole repair.
- Operate small machinery and light equipment such as line trimmers crack routers blowers and plate compactors as well as standard hand tools.
- Drive and maintain District vehicles including pickup trucks.
- Assist with clearing stream blockages and removing debris from rivers and waterways.
- Follow all safety rules and help maintain a clean organized and hazard-free work environment.
- Work collaboratively with crew members and provide reliable high-quality support for maintenance projects.
- Perform other duties as needed to assist roads and infrastructure operations.
What Youll Need
- 18 years of age or older at time of hire.
- Valid Drivers License in good standing.
- Previous experience in outdoor manual labor preferred.
- Ability to safely operate a variety of roads and landscape maintenance equipment.
- Familiarity with basic landscaping equipment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in an outdoor environment.
Schedule & Pay
- Monday through Friday. 6:45 am. - 2:45 pm.
- This position starts around April/May of 2026 and works for approximately 12 weeks.
- $17 - 18 per hour
Work Setting
- Position is based out of the Grounds Management Office inside of Blackwell Forest Preserve and requires frequent travel to Forest Preserve sites across the district.
- Safety Toe Boots are required and reimbursable. Packed lunch and water are required.
