Job Summary

Main Purpose of the Job

To manage the Payroll Department to ensure that payrolls (salaries and wages) are processed accurately and timeously in line with country-relevant legal requirements.

Key Performance Areas

Individual

  1. User testing (payroll configuration)

  2. Inter-payroll transfers

  3. Bulk data uploads into payroll

  4. Authorize payroll runs

  5. Prepare and execute payslip files and reports

  6. Prepare and process bank files

  7. Run and prepare monthly/ad hoc management reports

Operating Results Achieved Through Delegated Tasks

  1. Capturing employee life cycle data

  2. Archived employee data

  3. Salary payments

  4. Query resolution

  5. Internal and external regulatory compliance

Management

  1. Work planning priority setting and scheduling

  2. Performance monitoring (audits payroll run checks)

  3. People and capacity management

  4. Structures & roles

  5. Manage cross-functional relationships

  6. Resolve escalated operational issues

Leadership

  1. Staffing decisions

  2. Developing others

  3. Individual performance management

  4. Motivated and disciplined team

  5. Change management

  6. Input into succession planning

  7. Input into remuneration decisions

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge

  • Well-developed SAP (or other payroll system) knowledge

  • Knowledge of statutory and legislative requirements

Required Skills

  • MS Office (Excel)

Experience

  • Experience within the retail sector

  • At least 2 to 3 years in a Management capacity

Qualifications

  • Grade 12

  • Tertiary qualification in accounting

  • Payroll certification advantageous
