Adjunct Faculty Applied Technology HVAC

GRCCs Applied Technology Department is seeking an adjunct instructor in Heating Ventilation Refrigeration and Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Technology (HVAC) to join the Applied Technology Department. Candidates must possess an interest in working with diverse student populations from a wide range of age ethnicity national origin and ability; and a willingness engage in and develop innovative teaching strategies to effectively assess student learning outcomes. Adjunct faculty members are responsible to GRCC and to each other for the successful completion of departmental work as well as work associated with the School of Business and Industry and GRCC as a an environment where innovation is valued each adjunct faculty member will take responsibility to perform their work in a manner consistent with both the letter and the spirit of GRCC values.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide instruction in the area of Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning/Refrigeration which include skills in operating systems parts and units diagnosis troubleshooting repair and blueprint reading.
• Teach and perform demonstrations as well as create and safely facilitate lab based training in the classroom.
• Fulfill adjunct faculty responsibilities by providing a stimulating classroom environment following syllabus requirements using department approved curriculum and tools and applying college attendance policies.
• Respond to communications promptly and ensure students have access to course information.
• Comply with GRCC Policies and the Faculty Agreement.
• Maintain accurate student records to meet GRCC reporting requirements.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education Credentials

• Associates degree required; Bachelors degree preferred
• Michigan Mechanical License required
• EPA 608 Universal required

Work Experience

• A minimum of five years work experience in HVAC Service Installation or Maintenance is required.
• NATE Certifications current or previous preferred.
• Any additional industry certificates or certifications preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Ability to present and implement complex ideas and concepts from lecture to lab application.
• Skills in active listening social perceptiveness and critical thinking.
• Strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in instructional technology and learning management systems (Google Workspace tools: Google Docs Google Slides Google Drive Canvas)

Physical Demands

• Must be able to provide teaching demonstrations through modeling and scaffolding techniques.
• Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.

• An understanding of and appreciation for the community college philosophy and student population.

• An interest in working with diverse student populations who represent a wide range of age ethnicity national origin and ability.
• A willingness and an ability to learn college systems.
