Position Overview

In this key role you will collaborate with various departments to drive our commitment to safety excellence ensuring that every employee prioritizes their health and safety as well as that of their colleagues. You will lead initiatives that comply with regulatory standards and inspire a proactive safety mindset throughout the organization. Your ability to build rapport across the site will be essential in cultivating an environment where safety is everyones responsibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Plant Emergency Response Team ensuring preparedness for emergencies.

  • Develop and implement plant-specific EHS elements related to the Shaw Management System (SMS).

  • Conduct annual internal audits to monitor compliance with EHS requirements and drive continuous improvement.

  • Manage and maintain all SMS system elements related to environmental and safety compliance.

  • Ensure associate training meets the Environmental Handbook SAFE Handbook and all relevant regulations.

  • Serve as the liaison between facility management and Corporate Risk Management to ensure effective EHS programs and training.

  • Act as the site expert on incident investigations related to injuries near misses chemical incidents and property damage.

  • Utilize the RMIS EHS reporting system training facility personnel as needed to enter incident data and monitor corrective actions.

  • Supervise EHS Technicians and other safety-focused teams.

  • Analyze EHS performance data including injury trends and environmental permits and develop metrics for reporting to plant management.

  • Manage life safety program elements including life safety code implementation and property insurance management.

  • Serve as site administrator for the Safetec SDS system ensuring updates and compliance with new chemical approvals.

  • Develop and implement programs outlined by the Shaw Environmental Handbook and other applicable regulations.

  • Conduct routine EHS audits to ensure compliance and support continuous improvement.

  • Report concerns to appropriate facility and divisional resources.

  • Manage and track waste associated with facility operations ensuring proper classification per RCRA and other requirements.

  • Oversee facility-specific environmental regulatory permits and plans ensuring compliance and proper reporting.

  • Attend staff meetings and maintain open communication with facility management regarding EHS performance.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and serve as the key resource for facility EHS matters.

  • Create safety programs consistent with corporate initiatives and ensure all associate training meets SAFE and OSHA requirements.

  • Oversee RCRA regulations to maintain Small Quantity Hazardous Waste Generator status.

  • Submit necessary annual reports including SARA 311/312 Tier II and SARA 313 TRI.

  • Develop implement and coordinate training systems for plant personnel focusing on technical skills environmental safety and team development.

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of supporting systems such as recognition and communication.

  • Conduct investigations on safety-related incidents to determine root causes and coach plant personnel on safety initiatives.

  • Advocate for a safe workplace through high-level engagement with associates.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree required.

  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.

  • Proficient in a PC Windows-based environment; knowledge of Word Excel PowerPoint and Google applications is essential.

  • Ability to work off-shift as necessary and travel to various facilities as needed.
