The following positions within Inpatient Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient Adult Psychiatry Psychiatric Emergency Services CARES and Outpatient Behavioral Health Services are offering the opportunity to enroll in a program offering a cash incentive to recognize your work treating patients with substance use disorders. This program is sponsored through the ACCESS (Advancing Careers Competencies and Equity in Substance Treatment Services) grant. Employees must be >0.6 FTE to be eligible. 50% of the bonus will be received 90 days after signing the program contract. Program is available until grant funds are exhausted.

Registered Nurses (RNs) may earn up to $7500
Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) may earn up to $3500
Care Navigators may earn up to $3508

Job Summary

Under general supervision supports multiple projects and programs including creating submitting and tracking associated documents serving as liaison to associated agencies day-to-day operations specific to these designations. Responsible for providing a safe supportive and therapeutic environment for psychiatric patients. Provides direct patient care and may conduct therapeutic group sessions under the direction and supervision of the RN. Provides input to the RN to help develop the plan of care and assists in carrying out the plan of care for assigned patients. Assists with the admission of new patients and orients new patients and families to the unit. Responsible for ordering processing and maintain chain of custody for urine drug specimens.

Essential Functions:
  • Supports back-office area. (10%)
  • Scheduling for providers. Orchestrating intake process and scheduling follow up appts for intakes. (10%)
  • Assists with admissions discharges transfers and appropriate documentation. (10%)
  • Performs transportation responsibilities when requested; transporting patients from one area to another; delivering laboratory specimens blood products medications and other hospital/medical items to the requested departments as needed; and includes access to the pneumatic tube system to transport items including blood products and medications to and from the tube and the desired location. (10%)
  • Obtains vital signs on assigned adolescent adult and geriatric patients. (10%)
  • Differentiates normal from abnormal findings and reports abnormal values or conditions to the RN (ex. abnormal vital signs safety concerns family issues.) (5%)
  • Collects laboratory specimens on assigned patients as directed by RN staff. (5%)
  • Is aware of legal aspects of care as defined by C.S. 27-65 including patients rights. (5%)
  • Participates in Unit and Department Performance Improvement activities. (5%)
  • Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees physicians patients and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy dignity empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications. (5%)
  • Adheres to complies with and demonstrates support for the mission and values of Denver Health. Supports and adheres to the Denver Health Values of Trust Respect & Excellence. (5%)
  • Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patients care. (5%)
  • Adheres to Denver Health and departmental attendance guidelines. (5%)
  • Communicates and coordinates exception forms with nurses counselors and providers (5%)
  • Communicates and coordinates Hot Doc schedules/Counselor Schedules. (5%)

Education:
  • Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Required

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years in Behavioral Health Tech or similar related area preferred and
  • 1-3 years working with Behavioral Health Patients will waive certification requirements under #2 below. Required

Licenses:
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrates sensitivity in dealing with the psychiatric patient population which requires very specific communication skills as directed by the plan of care and ability to deal with milieu management.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts practices and procedures within a particular field.
  • Skill in assisting patients with daily activities.
  • Human relations and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain clinic competency.
  • Ability to observe and document the patients behavior.
  • Basic Computer skills required.
