The Department of Transportation ServicesTransportation Engineering Division is hiring for aTraffic Technician III in Honolulu.
What You Will Do:
- Conduct and assist with traffic and transportation studies gathering and analyzing data on roadway control measures such as stop signs one-way streets speed limits and parking regulations.
- Prepare technical reports maps charts and recommendations for roadway improvements and traffic control measures.
- Investigate and document traffic-related complaints of requests by collecting field data and researching possible solutions.
- Create and revise drawings and layouts for pavement markings intersections traffic signs and parking areas using computer-aided design (AutoCAD).
- Collaborate with engineers and higher-level technicians to develop and implement solutions that promote safe efficient traffic flow.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned for the position.

Special Working Conditions:
- Fieldwork requires working near moving vehicles and construction sites.
- May involve exposure to outdoor elements and vehicular traffic hazards during data collection and inspections.
- Must be available for occasional evening weekend or emergency work as part of the Citys Disaster Support Worker (DSW) designation.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three years of survey and/or data collection tabulation and analysis work experience. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of basic research and survey methods and statistical procedures.
Desirable Experience:
Computer experience using word processing spreadsheet and/or AutoCAD software.
Substitution: A Bachelors degree from a regionally-accredited four-year university or college may be substituted for ALLof the required experience.
The education substitution must be met at the time of application. Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United order to receive credit for the education a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program evidence of comparability or an original transcript.
Verification Requirement: In order to be given credit for your education clearly list your education credentials on your application. As part of the hiring process you may be asked to furnish documentation to verify your education to satisfy this education qualification requirement.
