The Alloy team serves as Amazons central efficiency organization leading company-wide cost optimization through intelligent and automated use of AWS resources. Our work spans thousands of internal services enabling large-scale efficiency improvements with minimal engineering effort from partner teams. We drive optimization across multiple layers of Amazons technology stack focusing on GPU efficiency infrastructure for AI/ML workloads through centralized scheduling software performance profiling and end-to-end storage optimization through data lifecycle management. These cross-cutting initiatives transform isolated team efforts into scalable secure and reusable systems that deliver sustained efficiency gains across Amazon.

As a Software Development Manager in Alloy you will lead a team of engineers and partner with service and infrastructure teams across Amazon to identify prioritize and eliminate performance and efficiency bottlenecks in large-scale distributed systems. You will define the technical vision set long-term efficiency goals and drive execution across multiple organizations. You will collaborate closely with Principal and Distinguished Engineers to influence architectural decisions shape company-wide optimization strategies and deliver solutions that enhance performance at scale. Your leadership will directly impact how Amazons services operate globally driving measurable cost savings in the tens to hundreds of millions of dollars annually while advancing Amazons commitment to operational excellence and sustainability.

In this role you will lead the design and delivery of scalable performance engineering systems establish and measure efficiency metrics guide cross-organizational initiatives and develop top engineering talent to innovate at the intersection of performance scale and cost efficiency.

- 3 years of engineering team management experience
- 7 years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

- Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting hiring mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers

The base salary for this position ranges from $171400/year up to $286200/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
