A well-established major regional hospital in New South Wales is seeking an experienced Staff Specialist in General Medicine to join their dynamic and highly respected medical team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a busy diverse inpatient service while providing senior leadership teaching and expert specialty care within a supportive and collaborative environment.
The Opportunity
As a Staff Specialist in General Medicine you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality acute and general medical care to a varied inpatient casemix. You will work closely with hospital leadership to support safe and efficient patient flow contribute to bed allocation decisions and oversee the transfer of care across departments.
You will also provide specialist outpatient consultations support after-hours rosters and act as a senior clinical resource for multidisciplinary teams across the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Provide specialist-level inpatient care within General and Acute Medicine
Participate in after-hours and on-call rosters as required
Contribute to safe patient flow transfers of care and bed management
Deliver outpatient clinics and internal consult services
Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to registrars junior doctors nursing and allied health teams
Ensure care is evidence-based safe equitable and aligned with best practice standards
Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across disciplines
Participate in quality improvement research and service development activities
About You
We are seeking a specialist who demonstrates:
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in General & Acute Care Medicine
- AHPRA Specialist Registration (unrestricted)
- Strong experience in general medicine and acute inpatient care
- Commitment to outreach models of care for rural and regional communities
- A demonstrated capacity for clinical leadership
- Enthusiasm for teaching supervision and ongoing clinical education
- Interest in quality improvement and research activities
- Excellent communication skills and a patient-centred approach
Please note: This role is not suitable for overseas trained physicians requiring supervision.
