About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Senior Project Officer Historic Heritage to support the Historic and World Heritage Units Historic Heritage Team through the provision of specialist technical heritage advice supporting heritage assessments heritage approvals conservation planning adaptive re-use and maintenance and repair of historic heritage assets and values in National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) parks and reserves.

The Senior Project Officer will play a pivotal role in providing advice on the development of conservation management plans heritage impact statements and adaptive re-use proposals for NPWS sites including those on the State Heritage Register and provide internal review and advice on applications for approvals or exemptions under the NSW Heritage Act.

Key duties include developing and fostering a high level of awareness of internal customer needs and delivering highly effective communications as they relate to supporting and advising the NPWS operations branches heritage management needs. This may involve travelling to sites possibly overnight to provide on-ground advice.

About you

You are a strategic thinker with strong project management skills and a passion for conservation and community outcomes. Your ability to analyse heritage issues of all types and find workable solutions will be key to your success in this role. You bring expertise in managing heritage and translating technical information into practical solutions.

You have a proven track record in facilitating workshops and designing effective stakeholder engagement opportunities . You excel at building relationships and communicating technical information clearly to diverse audiences. Your attention to detail and proficiency in planning data management and reporting ensure you meet deadlines and achieve results.

You also bring experience in strategic heritage management including drafting related policies and plans and preparing documents skills that are essential to delivering projects successfully. You demonstrate integrity collaboration and a commitment to continuous improvement ensuring your work contributes to shaping the future of NSWs national park estate.

Essential requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications closely related to the management of historic heritage
  • A high level of expertise in the assessment management planning maintenance and adaptation of historic heritage structures sites and values at the local and state levels.
